Need to replace rusted support for radiator on a 2005 V8 4Runner. Looks like radiator needs disconnected and drained then removed to weld new support bracket underneath it. Anyone do this already? Is it a difficult task? Thanks for any advice or help.

I’ve done it on 2004 V6. I didn’t remove or disconnect anything above that crossmember. That’s right it is just crossmember and not a support. It holds nothing other than 2 recovery hooks and spans left and right front of frame rails. I placed aluminum sheet between my welding spot and radiator to prevent splatter hitting fins or plastic up there. I used rookie grade Harbor Freight welder with decent results. Clean the metal well before welding. You can get 3 out of 4 sides to weld new part in. It is more than plenty strong for intended purpose of that rail. Temporary attach your skid plate to locate your tack welds. If you ready for this job be ready to grind the hell out of old part and welds that hold it in even if old rail is rusty to dust welds are bitch to tackle. I killed 2 grinders in process one being Pro Grade Dewalt. G.L.

the v6 is a lot easier, its been a while i dont think you have to remove the radiator, just the top hose and drain, then refill, if you have an evac macheine it will be real easy
