I know this seems like beating a dead horse..

I currently have two reservations for ORPs. Pretty much similar options except one has MTM and the other does not.

I am flip flopping between the two.

For those that own one with MTM would you trade it for slightly better backup camera quality, anytime front camera (switch and it's on regardless of speed) and a cleaner front end?

Future mods could also be a aftermarket head unit... Which it seems the MTM complicates matters.

Another future mod is a new front bumper in which the lowered TSS sensor would now have to be relocated with a risk of paying hundreds to recalibrate as well.

    Thoughts?

In my experience, while the 4Runner’s camera image quality is poor, the overlay lines are accurate and useful. But I don’t really use them because I was taught how to use mirrors and (gasp!) turn my head. That said, I do find the 360° bird’s eye view useful for checking if I’m centered in a parking space.

Cleaner front end: my 4Runner is a very capable lass, but I’ve never felt she would win any beauty contests. The TSS sensor and the front camera don’t bother me at all, aesthetically speaking.

Future mod: head unit. This is the pivotal issue. If you’re going to get an aftermarket head unit, skip the MTM.

Future mod: front bumper/expense to relocate TSS. TSS is a separate issue from MTM. All ORPs will have it. I’m pretty sure you can’t get a new 4Runner without it.

Congratulations in advance on your new ORP!

It's true the image quality for MTM isn't the greatest, but I still find the birds eye view really useful. The lines on the rear camera views are enough to give me the information I need to do what I need. The side camera are great for seeing where you are in relation to the curbs or anything similar that you normally can't see otherwise. My wife has a Merc GLE350 with birds eye view, and the image is crystal clear. I had gotten so used to using it that I was really disappointed at first when I saw the MTM quality on my 4runner when I got it, but I eventually got used to it.

Thank you both for some great input! It does sound like MTM does what it needs to do even though the resolution is low quality. And for $850 it's a fair deal straight from the factory.

Currently, still researching and found this.. unsure if it's a possibility as it does require a aftermarket head unit which comes with its own hurdles. But at the end of the video it does give something more promising beyond 4 cameras in high resolution... An additional 4 cameras to add for underbody... Very interesting.

Of course all this comes at a price higher than $850 but the set up also comes with auto recording of accidents and break-ins.

    Decisions decisions..

A factor worth considering with the MTM system, such as it is, is that it is covered by the vehicle warranty.

I have the the MTM camera system as mentioned the birds eye view is very useful to see how well your parked within the lines. You don't have to get out and look. All these complaints about camera resolution are beyond me. I have never had an issue discerning what I see or might possibly run into regardless of resolution and that's with old eyes.

the resolution is really poor for any video feed in 2023. While definitely usable, they should really have made it better mainly the front and rear cameras. The bird eye view angle is actually fairly clear for what is needed.

Despite the low resolution, if I had to do it again I would still chose MTM as it’s really useful
