I installed the Morimoto XB LED Headlights within the last week in my 2021 4Runner TRD Pro, when I first installed them I didn’t know you needed a specific harness. I purchased the specific harness which then gave me power to my headlights, currently I have power to the DRL, and low beams but I don’t have any high beams. I’ve followed the wiring diagram to ensure the proper connections from the vehicle to the wiring harness to the harness on the headlights are connected but I’m running into a road block. Does anyone have any ideas, I’m at a loss.

Thank you! That's what my hopes were set for, maybe if someone has had a similar issue and if I can even see how someone's harnesses connect.

Double check your connectors. I can't remember from the install on our 2020 if any of the connectors were close enough that you could get them backwards or not.

I’ve tried pushing the connectors in further to get them to seat more securely but seems like I have them fastened as tight as they’ll go, I’ve tried a few different variations with the connection from the harness to headlight etc.

    Hello, New Member here.

I am having a similar problem except I get no low or high beams. The only thing that works is the Amber DRL’s. There seems to be an extra harness coming from the headlight housing that does not match up with what was installed by Toyota. It appears that all my harnesses are connected properly and tightly connected. I bought the lights directly from Morimoto and they did charge an extra $77.50 for a conversion kit. Any help would be greatly appreciated here. This is the first time I have ever removed a portion of my truck like the installation requires so definitely not a pro.

    Thanks

Thanks, checked that out and Everything is set up properly with DRL add a fuse in EFI 2. I get both lights sequence when start up but then only drivers side remains on. If I switch to park mode, I get both however if I switch to DRL the passenger side light goes out. As for the high beams, it appears both sides are not working. Spent the better part of two days trying to figure this all out but I’m far from an electronics guy. Going to see if I can get the Limited/TRD Pro harness from Morimoto and hopefully that will resolve everything. Meanwhile, I triggered something so not my Trac is Off and my Check engine light is on. Truck is two weeks old! For $1500, you’d think these lights would be set up to work out of the box flawlessly. Not in my case though.

With you have a 20+ model and it being Pro you won't be getting the headlights to work until you get that harness in from Morimoto. Once I got the harness in I was able to bypass the wiring for the DRL directly where it wants you to piggy back into the EFI 2 fuses, I was able to take the DRL connectors and put them into the harness and that gave all the power I needed. After all of that and I still didn't have the high beams I found out my H-LP HI 20 amp fuse had blown causing my high beams not to work, replaced that and working without an issue now. I had the same issue arise with the Trac Off and Check engine light, pretty sure when I was messing with the connectors I triggered these codes as well. Luckily I have a diagnostic tool, plugged that in and just reset those codes and no more issues there.

So your issue was just the 20 amp fuse ? I’m having the same problem. I’ve taken apart several times and it’s driving me crazy. Morimoto just keeps sending me diagrams and I know it’s hooked up properly. High beams are they only issue. Are you able to send a pic of the fuse you’re talking about?

Is the issue with transients, rather than steady state current?

Steady state current is the basically constant amount it draws in normal operation. However, there's often a very short current spike when turning on or off that, although very brief, can be higher than the steady state current.

Everything works fine, it’s just when I hit the high beams I get absolutely nothing.

When you activate the high beams, is there power at the harness plug in?

I’m confused what do you mean “power at the harness plug in “ ? The blue high beam light goes on on the dash board.

    @Mike316trd

I swapped the high beam fuse with a 25 amp fuse and everything is working as it should. The fuse reads H-LP HI and will be a yellow 20 amp fuse towards the bottom (or close to you) looking at the fuse box from the drivers side of the truck. My 20 amp was blown. Seems that the aftermarket headlights blow that fuse? Unsure really but I figured if it blew the 20 amp, it be best to go larger with a 25 amp. Advanced Auto Parts did not sell this type (low profile mini fuse) of 25 amp on its own so I wound up buying a variety pack that provided me a few different size fuses including a 30 amp.

Hope this helps and more importantly works for you. I am myself a novice with all of this stuff and frankly was petrified to remove all the front end of my vehicle. Wound up replacing the headlights, fog lights, after market TRD Pro skid plate that works with KDSS, and TRD Pro grille. Most challenging part was this issue getting the Morimoto’s to work.

    Dude you are the man
I just did what you said and they came right on. I used the spare 25 amp that was in the fuse box. That’s awesome
I owe you a beer thanks so much

    Nice! That’s great to hear.

Well after I did this, I wound up getting a response from Morimoto. Apparently these instructions that utilize the fuse box in the engine compartment are going to change. Not sure if you have this problem but by plugging into the EFI 2 fuse port, the DRLs will turn on run it’s start up cycle and then stay in for 20-30 seconds. This has something to do with Toyota running a fuel pump test sporadically while the truck is off. Morimoto is now going to recommend running the DRL harness through the firewall and plugging it into an AUX in the fuse box under the dashboard. In doing so, this will now only run the DRL while the truck is keyed. Seems to be an easy fix. I need to run some Raptor lights anyway so I am going to try this weekend. However, will have to cut the add a fuse off feed the wire through the firewall and then splice it back on once it is in the truck itself.

I have seen some people say they are not even running this DRL harness and everything works fine. I will try that prior to going through the firewall though.

For the money you think, this would be an easier install. However as long as it works, I will be happy!

Yes I agree for the money this has been a bit of a headache. I don’t think I have had that problem you just mentioned but I’ll keep an eye out. But again thanks so much.
