I’ve had my 2nd gen for awhile now and have been happy. People either love them or hate them, and I have loved them, until this morning. I turned my truck on this morning and the DRL are not working on either light. The blinkers work, and when I turn the light to the second position they come on and the also come on with the full headlights turned on, but when the switch is set to DRL the lights won’t come on. Also, when I arm and disarm the alarm, the blinker lights briefly flash white then turn amber. Again, this is new and hasn’t done it before. I have a video file of this but can’t upload it here.

Can’t seem to figure it out. Anyone familiar with this issue? They are installed in a 2018 4Runner ORP. Thanks for the help.

I had the same issue a couple times, they would just cut out for no apparent reason.

What fuse do you have the DRL harness plugged into? Pulling mine out of the fuse and re-connecting corrects the issue when it happens. I'd also check the fuses in the add-a-fuse.

I wouldn’t necessarily say they are crap. They look good, perform relatively well and after a year the lens has held up very well. They are definitely a different light field than the halogens OEMS (more concentrated but less distance). I don’t regret my purchase but I wouldn’t recommend them as a must have.

If mine go awry I’ll probably go back to OEM with a stronger bulb. The stocks were almost like driving without any lights.

    Hope you resolve your issues.

I would go over and check all the connections on the fuse tap DRL harness. All the actual headlight functions (parking lights, turn signals, lows and highs) besides the DRL should still work even with the harness completely disconnected. You can also try unplugging the harness at each headlight housing individually to rule out the possibility that one of the actual headlights is causing the issue.

As mentioned before, what fuses do you have installed on the harness tap? Make sure no fuse is blown and that they're both 10amps. I know some people reported issues with a few of the earlier sets that shipped out with 3amp fuses installed.

You'll want to make sure that the tap is installed correctly in the 10amp INJ slot in the fuse box. If you don't care for the startup sequence, some people just do the 10amp MIR HTR.

Otherwise, contact the vendor you purchased them from or Morimoto directly about the issue. They're under warranty, but more importantly, you want to make sure there isn't a short anywhere or come to truck with a dead battery.

Your HID setup is entirely different from what the OP has. I would guess one of your ballasts has probably gone bad.

The DRL was plugged into the wrong socket in the fuse block and the 3 amp fuse keeps blowing now. In the tap there is a 10Amp and 3Amp fuse. Anyone use a bigger fuse than the 3?

Yes, They had me put a 10amp in place of the 3amp. Haven't had any issues.

I just did that. Fixed the DRL issue, but when I arm and disarm the factory alarm the flights flash white then go amber. That’s a new issue. But the DRL is fixed. I reached out headlight revolution to see if they’ve seen this and sent them a little video of it. Annoying but not a big deal. Thanks for the help.

According to Headlight Revolution the lights are supposed to briefly flash white then amber when arming and disarming. Reached out to Morimoto and they confirmed that, so I don’t know. The 10 amp replacement fixed the other issue.

Ok cool thanks. Just trying to figure out what's normal and whats not. My fuse tap came with 10amps already on them but I'll check/replace to see if it fixes the issue with nothing turning on when switched to the DRL position. I still have to turn mine 2 positions to get my DRLs to turn on. Also my start up sequence doesn't work, on the 2020+ instructions say to tap EFI 2 fuse(don't know if that makes a difference). Waiting to hear back from morimoto

I solved the DRL issue by doublechecking where I plugged the fuse in in the fuse box. I had it in the wrong location. That fixed having to move the switch 2 locations to get the DRL on.

For anyone with a 21 and 22, my fix was removing the whole DRL tap harness and works perfectly fine. Not sure if the extra harness, even though it stated it was for PRO and LIMITED models, was the fix. My DRLs used to stay on even though it was in the OFF position and the startup sequence would randomly come on after arming. Out of curiosity I disconnected the fuse tap and now works like how it should. Stays off in the off position, DRL comes on in the DRL position and stays off under vehicle settings. Though startup sequence comes on when E-brake is disengaged, not sure if thats when its supposed to come on but im fine with it. Main reason why I chose Morimoto over Alpharex is their 5 year warranty vs 2 years and a few running there headlights here I noticed the lens were yellowing.

Ok I just went to the store and was parked in front of a wall and noticed the start up sequence. I live on a hill and always have the e brake engaged. That probably was it. Thanks!

So what I found out is that when your parking brake is on, the DRL’s don’t come on when you start the car. Also your DRL doesn’t come on if the engine isn’t fully on, just a heads up. I freaked out for a second then soon as I took the parking brake off they turned on.

Am my wits end here with these Morimoto lights. I have no DRL and no High Beams. Turn signals, Low Beams, Fog lights are all fine. I took the DRL harness off completely and still didn’t work. Plugged into the EFI 2 port because the instructions state that. Running 10 amp fuses too.

Emailing Morimoto back and forth all day but their yeah support is a little less to be desired here.

Anyone have any ideas? First time ever removing the front end piece and did a bunch of mods while it was off. Frankly these headlights have been the biggest issue out of everything. I have a 2023 4r QRP

Not to hijack this convo but wanted to see if any of you have an issue with the morimoto XB lights just come on. I walked by my 4runnner last Thursday and the lights came on. Thought i was going crazy but it happed two more times. Car was off, doors locked and my key fob was a good 50’ away. The lights would only stay on for a few seconds. So I opened the hood/fusebox and the wiring was correct. Not sure how it is getting power while the vehicle has been parked for a good 6 hours.
Outside of that, all the lights work great and do love them.

If I recall, the truck turns on certain electronics and cycles through them every so often. The fuse you tapped is probably the culprit. Most tap inside the cab fuse box to prevent this from happening.

Read through the following thread and you should get your answer even though the initial post is for a different issue (starting post #29):

Don’t tap the EFI 2 fuse that Morimoto recommends. They told me they were going to send out new instructions but perhaps not. Anyway, that fuse runs some sort of cycle for I believe the fuel cap as well as some other things. By tapping that, your headlights will randomly turn on when this cycle runs. You can tap it to a fuse in the cabin, I think most use the ignition. The other possibility and what I did is not plug the DRL harness in at all. Your DRL will still run however you will not have them automatically do so upon start up. Instead you will have to turn the DRL switch on, on the column. I have the amber headlights and decided not to run the DRL at all however if I wanted to, I just need to turn the DRL switch on. After seeing them along with my raptor lights, I wasn’t that big on the look. They do look awesome when they are on with the headlights though. Even better with my Baja yellow fog lights.
