Yeah - I'm a weirdo, and I'm wondering if the old 2018 style headlights would plug and play into a 2023 model that has LED headlights? Will just add other options if it's not plug and play.

I'll spare my philosophical rationale (for now) and just say it's a matter of preference for me.

    Thank you in advance!!

People use a harness to upgrade to the LED assemblies so you'd likely need the same harness but reversed.

    Here's another thought..

My 2019 has the same headlights as you and I run LEDs. If anything fails its a matter of changing the bulb in about a minute or so. Vs my 2021 has LED housing, if anything fails I will be changing the entire housing that involves removing the bumper praying that no tabs will break.

I bought Alpharex lights but will probably buy new OEM LED to have on the shelf in case the Alpharex lights die out or I don't like them when I finally install them.

Absolutely! A single headlight replacement on the 200 series was over $2,000 when I faced that dilemma. Imagine how painful that was for someone who didn't appreciate LEDs anyway. :X

definitely going against the grain since most owners desire some flavor of LED. OEM halogen housing would be a partial plug and play since the LED projectors are bi-led units that are low and high beam. it may be possible to have the DRLs behave like high beams but would require some wiring.

Helps melt snow. How about an H9 mod as a slight improvement over stock halogen?

I would love to hear the logic behind this (assuming this isn't a troll job). One of my favorite things about my '23 over my '19 is having headlights that actually do their job properly. I can't imagine ever wanting to go back.

Replaced the halogen bulbs in this truck with Sylvania Zevo Led plug and play bulbs, much brighter than halogen and guaranteed for 5 years.

Not sure why I prefer them - but if I had to think of an analogy - it would be something along the lines of being able to see something next to an LED television at night, vs being able to see something beside a projector screen at night. Our eyes adjust to brightness, and having bright LEDs is nice, but the cutoff makes the contrast more severe for me. Will probably just slap some extra lighting on that will average out the stock lasers

Just make sure that they haven't changed the gauge of wire used for the LED headlights. It may be a thinner wire and not suitable for halogen draw.

I kind of wish my 23 used the halogen bulb for highbeam. Every toyota I had with the 9006/9005 (XV30 Camry, 3rd gen Rav4, 9th gen Corolla) for low/high, the high beams are spectacular and things of wonder when you put in high performance halogen aftermarket replacements with clear glass envelope around the filament. The high beams on my 23 with LED is fine, but doesn't have the same color rendition for seeing far away in the dark. The low beam is really good but I do wish the CRI was a bit warmer.

    Oh well.

It would be a matter of preference for me as well. Because I am a weirdo too. Sometimes I can see the flicker of LED headlights on other vehicles. Most people see LED light as a solid light. But LEDs have a frequency, and sometimes I can see it.

You might appreciate some diode dynamics ss3 fog lights in yellow. They’d help with what you’re struggling with. But turn them on/off like you would a high beam with oncoming traffic.

I run HIDs in my 4runner. About $80 for the swap including bulbs. Awesome upgrade over halogens. Going on 4 years

I installed Morimoto lights and IMO it's a huge improvement. But....my confidence isn't quite as high as OEM so I've kept the original just in case there is ever an issue.

@OP if you want a set of halogen housings from a 2020 DM me. Still have my housings after upgrading to OEM LEDs.

Thanks. What year is your 4Runner? I have heard HIDs can't be run in 2010-2013.

HIDs / LEDs not the best to run on reflector low beam on 2010-2013 housings as it would be really hard for the on coming traffic. If you have projector low beams a good set of HIDs / LEDs should not have any problems. HIDs would need to drill the hole on the dust cap and seal with the rubber gourmet provided my the kit. If you want to change back to original dust cap you can easily buy at the Toyota Dealership and it wasn't that expensive (I think 20-30 bucks). I did that when I change from HIDs to LEDs. You can also buy pre-drilled dust caps after market and keep the original.

Oncoming traffic will thank you for having properly aligned headlights of any bulb type. There are plenty of lifted Runners out there blinding people with halogen and LED.

If you have a reflector low beam housing H9 might be a safer bet without getting into trouble by cops.

    upload_2023-9-25_16-1-2.png

Not sure, But if you go HIDs may be pick something closer to 3800K color temperature of halogen, so its not too obvious that you have changed.

Is it just a plug and play into a 23 you think? Or is there more to it? Def interested if plug and play!
