Hearing a quick metallic sound each time I drive it. Told 2002 has "F-16" brakes by my mechanic and wants $2260 to replace "Brake Hydraulic Actuator"-- does this sound right?

What do you mean by "when I drive it"?. On startup? On moving? On braking?

I get clicks from my brake pads moving back and forth in my calipers when I brake and then when I accelerate. That's normal.

If the car is working normally...I'd ignore it. There is an issue with Wildcat Screams coming from the Brake MC\ABS module. But it's not a "quick" sound.

When car first starts out down the drive, not brake application, just a squeaking metal sound (extremely quick). I'm told when it goes, I'll have no brakes.

It could be nothing. Brakes are really easy to work on for the most part, its worth learning to do your own. Does it sound like its in the dash or in the wheels? Have a friend stand by outside if that helps pin it down. I mean heck, after I did a brake job on my van and it sat for about a month, it would make a screech when I'd start to drive that went away with a light tap on the brake pedal and it soon stopped entirely. Maybe the caliper or pads were momentarily stuck, I dunno. I've had similar sounds when my cars sat outside during the warm season, and surface rust builds up on rotors but quickly wears off with a few cycles of braking.

While it MIGHT be something that's nothing, if it is " part of the master cylinder/ABS assembly, it could also be from the little pump that the motor runs " like that other thread says it could be more serious. That's why I suggest pinning down where the sound is coming from.
