Metallic paint colors for 5th gen?

Hi Guys.

I'm curious as far as the durability of these various paint colors offered on the 5th gen 4 Runner.

Historically, for my vehicles, the metallic paints, or those with "pearl" flakes in them have held up much better and resisted swirl marks and such than flat or gloss paints.

My wife has a Nissan Rogue in pearl white that looks amazing. In contrast, I had a snow white Toyota Corolla that showed every possible blemish!

1) Main question: Are there any metallic paint colors in the 4 Runner known for good or bad longevity?
2) Are there any metallic or pearlescent paint colors offered in the off-road variants?
3) Lunar Rock is obviously popular... is that a metallic finish or gloss?

 

Color has nothing to do with resisting swirl marks. Swirl marks are in the clearcoat. The metallic or pearl in the color may hide the swirl marks in the clear but it's there if the paint is not properly cared for.

With the exception of white (040), all 4runner colors are metallic and one pearl. All new Toyotas have clear coat... now.

 

@EC15 Do you know when Super white started getting clear coat? Was it just this year(23) when they changed the name to Ice cap? but still has the same color code 040?

 

Sorry, not sure when super white started getting cleared but your 2022 has clear.
They might have started to clear whites in 2017 or 2018 since those were the latest whites affected by the recall.

You're forgetting the best color, Lunar Rock!

 

I am curious about this one. Can you confirm if it is metallic or not? How does it seem to hold up to wear?

 

Oops forgot about lunar rock and army green.
Both are non metallic.

BTW... Barcelona Red is the best color.

 

Out of curiosity where did you get the info about the white paint/clear coat? I've been avoiding white in my search of a 4Runner since I knew about the issue they had previously.

 

I'm going off the estimating software at work and the year of vehicles affected in the recall.
Estimating program says base coat/clear coat.

There seems to be 5 metallic paint colors

I think cement grey and tan trd pro colors are non metallic as well.

 

Cement, lime rush and solar octane are metallic.
Tan... Not sure. Probably not.
