    All:
Wheel locks from Toyota are ridiculously expensive. I did buy wheel locks from McGard for this vehicle, so two questions:
    1. Is it ok to run these standard McGard wheel locks on the TRD Matte black wheels?

    2. The McGard wheel lock installation instructions want you to torque the wheel lock to what is specified in the vehicle's owners manual. I cannot find anywhere in any of the documents I have for this vehicle where its states the ft. lb. torque to apply to the wheel lug nuts. Anybody know this, or should I just snug 'em up tightly and leave em?
    Thanks all for your time.

@HuskyMike Thank you. Under what topic / chapter did you find that information? I looked within Tires and I looked within Wheels....

On my 2022 owners manual it is listed under 8.1 specifications>tires and wheels, It is also listed under section 7.2 under steps to take during an emergency.

Keep in mind that the 'factory' spec refers to 'factory' parts and not necessarily applies to any aftermarket component. There can be a potential for differences in mechanical design and/or material (alloy) used between factory and aftermarket components. As a precaution, I would check directly with the McGard company for their spec just to be sure.

    Good point.

When I worked at a dealer (Nissan/Infiniti) the locking lugs had been certified to be used by Nissan/Infiniti for installed torque based off of factory spec. in regards to the OEM lug replaced

As stated above, Not sure Toyota follow this procedure, But torque I quoted was for factory lug nuts.

I didn't know it off the top of my head, so I searched my saved PDF of the manual for "wheel torque" and it was the second result I saw. Was on page 504 7-2. Steps to take in an emergency.

As mentioned by RumHamRunner73, it's also listed on page 532 8.1 Specifications

Just to let you know, the wheel locks that came with my wife's 4runner are made by McGard. They are probably torqued the same as the other lug nuts

For anyone looking for a new 4runner some of the dealers websites have a box for the window sticker, you click on that to see what it has. If that is the vehicle that you are interested in make sure that everything on that window sticker is in the car before driving away. A lot of runners have them included. I should have waited but she's not patient as there are cheaper 24's out there with the locks and the crossbars for the roof rack.

All: Thank you for your input. Stupid question time: Are the 17" TRD matte black wheels that come with the XP Predator trim considered steel wheels or aluminum wheels? Thanks again all.. :)

I bought the wheel locks from Amazon. They are some brand that are made in China. They have longer shank with the washer included on them which the ones I bought from McGard did not. At this time I'm trying to figure out how much torque to put on these wheel locks. I first need to know if these TRD matte black wheels are steel or aluminum. Thx

If you are using those lugs on the stock wheels, they are the wrong style
Stock wheels use mag type lugs, those are conical. Mating surface is drastically reduced and doesn't thread on as much.
    Not safer.

For the record, I'm running KMC wheels, not stock. And when i say "safer" I mean a bit harder to steal. Since that is what this thread seems to be about, wheel security.

These are the ones I'm running...

I'm assuming they are aluminum but put a magnet to em to make sure.
