Question about wiring harness - what harness do I need to replace for the manual transmission to ECU - already have a manual transmission ECU
Need to source my transmission yet and wondered what wiring to replace. Also (now cannot find it ) is the expression about auto locking or rear locking something of concern? [sorry for my lack of knowledge ]

Here’s a good place to start, note that you have a ‘98 so the wiring colors will be a lil different. What year is the manual ecu from?- that will dictate which wiring diagrams to use to line up your wires. If you go the harness route you’d need the full harness off the same year truck the manual ecu came from, and may need to repin the body harness anyway, but that’s a few steps in the future This thread follows a ‘98 swap and should be helpful: I’ve got the ‘98 FSM (factory service manual) laying around here somewhere, so I’ll try and post pics of the wiring diagrams when I have some time.

Im not quite sure what you are referring to on your second question. Some later year 4Rs had a limited slip diff, some 4Rs have a locking diff, is that what you are asking about?

Not that I know of :/ I think you’d have to use a gen2 Tacoma and the ECU is probably really borking with the system. I’m holding out that the new 6th gen 4R and 4th gen Tacoma will spur some swaps in the future
