So i got a new to me 2012 4R SR5...it only came with one key/FOB. Since I've only had it for 3 days now I've not tried using the metal key in the door to lock or unlock the door. I went to a locksmith to get an extra key cut and programmed and we found out the manual key wont lock or unlock from the outside. The key that came with the truck will work on the tailgate though to open the rear glass and open the liftgate but won't unlock the doors. Not sure why this would be. Any insight? Lock actuator?

Someone might have changed either the door lock cylinders or the tailgate lock cylinder.

Ok - i disconnected the battery for 5 min and still the same result. Then i went to the back tailgate and used the key and pushed on the release combo and that unlocked all the doors. So i'll assume its the sensor in the handle or the door actuator lock thingy.

Guess we should start from the beginning.

In the door does the key turn? Assuming yes?

yes - turns both ways...but no sounds and locks dont work. I also made sure my hand/fingers were on the door handle - i would assume where the sensor would be located.

So, was there ever a fix/result to this problem? I just had the same thing happen. I had a spare key made (because I only got one when buying the vehicle) and right after, the door lock actuator on the driver door went out. I got a new one, installed it, and it worked…with the fob. Now, 3 days later I tried the key manually in the door and not that it turned both ways but didn’t lock or unlock the driver door (or any other door). The new key worked before installing the new actuator because I had to use it to lock.unlock the driver door. Is the actuator bad? Or did I not seat the dangly metal rod (hanging in the door) properly in that little cup on the corner of the actuator when installing the new one? Thanks
