Hello! I’m new to the forum and in need of help. I have had my windshield replaced twice due to cracks. The most recent being October 21st. One week later, and I have another chip, that will most likely spread. Has anyone else encountered this problem with their windshield?

Mine was six years old when I bought it used, it looks like somebody sandblasted the windshield, lol. I had a few chips, then one that got a little bit bigger. We recently had a heatwave the end of last month, and I came out of work to find a 10 inch crack in it from about the center of the windshield right to the bottom.

I haven't gotten around to calling my insurance company, I have glass coverage will get replaced for free. It just had a few long road trips to go on this past month, and I figured if I got it fixed, with my luck I'd pick up another rock chip immediately after. Now I'm done with the road trips for a while I'm going to have it done soon.

Also, I was in an event recently, and was talking to another 4Runner owner that had pretty much the same exact crack.

I think it has to do with how upright the windshield is. Before I got my 4Runner I was looking into the Wrangler, and I heard it was an issue with them. I had to have the windshield on my Volvo replaced, and I asked the guy if he did a lot of Wrangler windshields. He laughed, and said a few a week.

Small chip, repair it. Then wait for the next rock to hit and crack it. Sucks. Make sure you have windshield coverage on your insurance

Our vehicles and many other manufacturers have gone to a glue in process. Instead of the tried and true rubber gasket and spreader bead. A robot lays a bead of glue then another sets the glass. Two paid employees... gone.
Then combine 2 thinner sheets of glass and a fairly stiff glue (after it cures) and a chassis that is designed to flex ever so slightly, and shit, cracked windshield.

Once again, the bean counters raise their ugly heads.

Edit; Mine cracked on a damn cold morning. It started at the center bottom, then half way up and across to the passenger side. That was 3 years ago and I don't plan on replacing it until I have to.

Lots of modern vehicles have this issue. Sometimes it just happens

Get glass coverage from your insurance company. Separate and apart from the rest of the policy.
