    I have. V-6 SR5 2WD 4Runner..
The transmission is solid; however I have a loose shifter on the console. What I mean is that in drive I can move it Right to left in gear . I’d like to fix it, but a New OEM shifter is $700. I bought a used one from eBay but it was broken.
Does anyone else have this issue?
    Is there an easier fix?
    Thanks
    Frank

I don't know about the 4spd, but if you have the 5 spd, there is a pin, spring and housing that guides the shifter along it path and the housing tends to break. There was someone who actually epoxied it and made it work. Mine wasn't broke but was hard to shift in some gears so I had it apart. Here are some of the pics I took and another one of someone who's housing had broken to give you an idea what to look for. The console and shifter aren't really difficult to take apart with basic tools.

Thanks so much! I’m gonna try that this weekend. I knew that it had to be a simple answer

Hey I just realized I never posted a page on the other forum with a couple tips that may help you with disassembly and reassembly. The last pic on this post is the lock mechanism and where it slides down in to contact the release tab. The spring goes over that tang and keeps it from engaging until you push it.

My shifter is loose and does not have the tension and it once had, with crisp and precise movement through the gears. It easily flops in the park position and when in drive, easily moves to the left into the lower gear.

What let can I replace to avoid a costly shifter assembly replacement?

I too have an 03 4wd limited. It was always had to go from D to 4, loud snap. Now I've got the wobbly loos shifter. Did you find a fix?
