    Hey all!

I’ve had my 2001 4Runner for about 10 years and I’ve unfortunately hit a decision point and would love some advice. I grew up and purchased my 01’ in Minnesota, so as you’d imagine, (or for anyone who’s lived there) the weather got to it and more so prior to my purchase. I’ve since moved to GA, drove down without any issues but the rust from all the salt has finally caught up. The undercarriage is extremely rusted and the suspension, break drums, struts and axle bearing need to be replaced. I kept up with all regular maintenance and everything I between but once one issue started - the rest followed and my local shop that I’ve gone to for years, told me it’s finally time to move on because the cost to fix was a lot. I’ve been contemplating for months, whether or not I should sell as is or slowly restore it. Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated, as well as any past experiences and decisions.

Looks like you have a 2021 so 2001 is your only transportation.
If you really love it and have the money go for it. But don't expect to make a profit.

Welcome. These Northern guys can offer more than a southerner. But a compromised frame is not a safety issue you want to unload your bank account into.

If it's only surface rust, then fix it and keep it

It’s not so all of the necessary maintenance to make it drivable again, with consideration of the rust - it makes it hard because anything can go wrong and simply fall off. I am not looking to make any money on it, but if not me - I’d love for someone to buy it so they can fix it up for themselves or a loved one. I just don’t know if anyone would want to take it on, although I’d think someone with the ability would.

If you can post a bunch of good pictures of the underside, focusing on the worst sections, there are lots of knowledgeable folks on here who can offer meaningful recommendations. I lost my 2001 to the rust monster a few years ago.

My rule of thumb is that I'll put money into something for my own use, but not to improve resale value unless there's a big return on investment. I'd let somebody pay what it's worth in its current state. The only exception would be if I really needed some return and was positive of getting it.

Sounds like it could be a potential money pit, might be time for an upgrade.

I don’t think the cost, is worth the sentiment and I am sure someone would be able to fix er up and get some good use out of it for another good bit of time.

Hi again - although I haven’t posted any pictures and considering all the mechanical fix needs - what do you think would be a fair average asking price to sell for?
