I recently had service dome on my 2024 4runner...They changed oil and did inspection and changed cabin filter....When i got home i noticed that my locking lug key was missing from my glove compartment...I called Toyota and she told me they had 2 of them that was used by that particular technition....she said i should come back to see if either of them fit my car....She came out and gave me one and i put it on locking nut that went on..and slight play left and right...maybe thats normal....thats my question..i know there are many different patterns they use...is there only one that fits...and they slight left to right play normal...P.S. total bs that thetech used My Key...I was tokd they are not supposed to do that....Sorry if its a lame question...my mechanical know how is pathetic!

Rule #1 is to Never to use the key to loosen the lock nut with an impact.

If you have the key serial number paper work, iirc Mcgard makes them and you can buy a new one. If an impact was used, the lock nut interface may be damaged, inspect all four.

Mine have a tiny bit of play but it it drops in, it sounds like you have the right one.

Agree with others that an impact should not be used to loosen the locking one. I will add that an impact should not be used to put any of the lug nuts on either. The torque spec of 76ft lbs on our wheels is too low to put them on with an impact wrench.

I keep 6 of the original chrome lugs in the vehicle for the spare and 4 extra black ones. I will swap the locking for the black ones if my tire shop is going to do any work on the wheels. Plus I tell them "on" by hand only The vehicle has never seen the dealership so not worried about that.
