Locking gas cap

any recommendations on best locking gas cap?

Anyone else concerned about this, fuel theft?

 

Locking gas cap is not necessary because of anti-siphon provisions in the filler neck. If thieves want your fuel, they are known to drill a hole in the fuel tank itself. Dangerous as it is. I have not heard of this happening very much though.

 

Locking gas caps are a waist, most are garbage and easy to pick/break. Good to hear there are anti-siphon provisions in the filler neck.

Extremely helpful information, I didn’t know this anti-syphon modification existed. (Still have a lot of reading to do in the manual). However, call me SOFLA paranoid but I don’t like people having access to my fuel filler neck and fuel. Too easy to sabotage.

 

I purchased a “Stant” brand locking gas cap for my 2021 TRD OR for some of the reasons stated. Unfortunately, it did not seal correctly and the check engine light came on after a few hours of use.

It threw the same code as a defective gas cap and many have reported the same experience. Some have said it works fine but it seems to be hit or miss. I put the factory cap back on after resetting the check engine light and have had no further issues.

I wish Toyota made a locking cap….

If a vehicle doesn't come with a locking gas cap. Not worth getting aftermarket.
Used an aftermarket on my previous car. Majority of the time, it wouldn't. Not worth risk of getting stranded somewhere.
