My OEM remote start through the control (3 lock presses) stopped working.
I reset the system by unplugging the battery . no go.

any ideas how to diagnose this further?

I really do not want to take it to the dealer...

Do you have a check engine light or any warnings? I know in some vehicles a CEL will prevent remote start use.

Does it work via the Toyota App? If it does, something is amiss with the FOB (or the receiver/antenna in the truck) and it would be covered for free under your 3yr/36k B-2-B warrant. Understand that you would rather not go to the dealership (same here... with most things...), but hey if it's warranties and they are obligated to fix it, that might the be the simplest thing to do.

I do not have and never used the app. always used the fob and it worked for 4 years....
    warranty period is over...

Please do not tell me Toyota changed something in their system that is requiring to purchase a sub to be able to remote start from FOB??

    watched this, does not help

Toyota didn't change anything, and you don't have the purchase a sub at all - FIWW, it's free for the first year (after that you can just not use it and everything is the same). Said a different way, even if you don't have the sub, the FOB still starts the Limited with 3 pushes on the FOB button.

If you purchased the Limited new, you got 2 FOBs. Does the other one work?

I would try to install fresh battery in keyfob or try to use 2nd keyfob to see if it keyfob problem.

I will do that when I get home, however I do not think this is a problem.

I believe it might have happened after I installed a new car battery.

Looking at this, it seems that Toyota requires a trial or subscription of any of it services for the FOB to start the car. because the FOB has to go to the DCM , look at the flow chart below.

and I might have reset the trial subscription (service connect) 10 years free trial when I changed the car battery (I am speculating).
I installed the Toyota app and I have an option to activate a trial of 10 years of service connect...

    https://www.thedrive.com/tech/43636...tart-subscription-plan-after-massive-blowback

I will try another FOB, if that does not work i will reactivate the 10 year trial ...

I think my remote start from keyfob was still working after all Toyota trial subscriptions have expired. But it might be different in Canada

Same with my 2022, Remote will start. I have never signed up for as subscription. I think Limited and Pro have remote start via fob.

    Did you read the article?

The fob still goes to the DCM and the DCM checks if you have trial of subs and then starts...
You mighy have service connect trial when you first bought the car without you knowing....

Toyota did indeed change something in the latest app update. You have to go in and agree to the “Connected Services Master Data Consent” or it won’t work. No subscription required. This happened to me a few weeks ago. After I went in and agreed to it, the remote start worked again.
