Anyone replace their struts and actually happy with the non-oem replacement? I don't have any added weight(unless JBL system adds something) but would like it to open fully without having to push it the last 30%.

I did. After I put a ladder on the back, it was just heavy enough that the original struts couldn’t hold it up any more. The brand was Strong Arm Lift Supports and they were about $75. The gate is much sturdier now and I feel safe, even on a windy day to lean in and not feel like it will come down on me.

Wanted to know if aftermarket struts will lift the hatch all the way without help.

Thanks. Is it harder to close with those struts or about the same?

It’s not easy, but I don’t have a grab strap. My model didn’t come with that option so I have to grab from the top of hatch itself. Compared to my buddies stock ones, you can feel the difference.
