I just got a 2017 SR5 and I am eager to make some mods to it. I just finished a sub install and I am super happy with the result. The next thing I want to do is upgrade the tires, rims and give it a 6' lift. Any recommendations as to how to do this within a reasonable (not cheap but not over the top) budget? Would you recommend just visiting a local shop? How do I know if the quote is reasonable etc. Thanks!

Most people only lift in the 2"-3" range, because the front suspension geometry can't take much more than that. Fabtech and I think BDS offer 6" lifts for these, but they're drop bracket kits that basically lower the front diff and suspension down in order to get the lift. Plenty of fullsize truck guys run these types of lifts, but they're typically looked down upon in the Toyota community, from what I've seen.

The downsides are that front ground clearance is notreally improved by the lift, since it relocates that A arms lower in the chassis, which puts everything closer to the ground. The only way to get ground clearance on a kit like this is to go with bigger tires. Also, they can be more money to purchase, and they're more complicated to install. Not sure about on a 4Runner, but on some of the fullsize trucks some kits require existing brackets to be cut from the frame, and new brackets welded in. That makes this less of a DIY project, depending on your skills.

On the pus side, you'll be taller than most other 4R's, and you'll be able to run 35's without much trouble. Budget for a regear as well though, no way is the stock drivetrain capable of handling 35" tires.
