Hey guys after about a month of reading stuff on here and about 3 hours tonight I’m looking for some answers I haven’t found yet.

First, thinking about going the 5100 route at 1.75 until my rig is fully built and I dial in a Kings from Accutune with all accurate weights once all my accessories are on. (Just want the cheaper 5100’s for now for aesthetics).

My question is, with the 5100’s there’s no way to get rid of the “Toyota Lean” is there? And while on that topic why do I never see anything about leveling the rear drivers side to help alleviate Toyota lean as well?

Second, if I want the front driver passenger to sit level do I have to jump up to 6112’s/Eibach coilovers, etc?

    Thanks for your help guys.

There are spacer shims on the market for both the front and rear drivers side to correct lean. I don't know who makes them off the top of my head but they're out there.

You have 2 options to correct the lean.
    1. Set either the driver's side shock 1 or 2 clip settings higher or the passenger side 1 or 2 clips lower. This will compensate for the lean. Just make sure you install the correct one on the correct side ;) If you are getting the shocks preassembled, most places will ask you what clip setting you want and will adjust it from there.
    2. Add a 10mm (3/8') shim like discussed above. OME(ARB), Dobinson's, Cornfed and some other companies make them for both front and rear. If you dont have KDSS, you can get away with just running a front left shim. My current set-up has 3/4 inch difference left to right in the front and zero difference in the rear. This is with a 3/4 tank of gas and the wife in the driver's seat. I am currently not running anything as I will be replacing my shocks with threaded adjustable coil overs and will compensate then by adjusting each side individually.
REMEMBER, the spacer is a 1:2 ratio. Meaning a 1/2" spacer will give you 1" of lift. usually a 1/4-3/8" spacer is sufficient.

Do you "need" to get rid of the lean. Not really. I have seen a rig that was damn near perfect until the driver got out and the tank was empty, and it leaned to the right until he filled up and got back in it!

With the Bilstien 6112 kit you mention, you can do the same thing. 1 or 2 clip settings on one side ( which ever you prefer). Most set ups I have seen go up 1 on the driver's side. BTW, Eibach is the manufacturer of Bilsein's coils.

I installed 5100’s on my 2021 OR shortly after buying it to level the front, firm up the handling and reduce the front end dip when braking. With the front 5100’s set at .85, I got 1” of lift in front on the OEM springs and zero driver side lean.

Later, I added a bumper, winch and skids and upgraded the OEM springs to Dobinsons to carry the weight. When doing the spring upgrade, I noticed that the front driver side OEM spring is about 1/2” taller than the passenger OEM spring apparently to address the driver side lean. After installing the Dobinsons springs which are the same height left to right, I got a 1/2” lean as the drivers side is 1/2” lower than the passenger side.

I have considered installing a 1/4” spacer on the drivers side and may do so at some point but have driven the rig this way about 5k miles and no longer pay any attention to the lean as it’s really a non issue. I’ve read that some T4R’s have a lean straight from the factory and correcting it is not something that you have to do.

And, as DiRTRCR13 said, “do you really need to correct”? I would say it’s up to you with the 5100’s but not necessary and when you install the adjustable Kings, level it then. Or, don’t worry about!!

    Cheers,
    Bob

I have 5100 and 6112s. Great bang for the buck. Had to purchase a KDSS spacer as well to make it all work.
