I get my other SUV fluid filmed because theres a place nearby, and I've seen enough topics on FF to know it is effective. My buddy is getting his Silverado treated by Krown.... wondering if anybody here uses Krown rustproofing, and what they think about it?

I've heard that Krown might lead to swelling of rubber gaskets and seals on the long run, but still provide adequate protection from rust. I never used it though since I went for Fluid film myself.

Ok ok fair enough.... I just googled it and saw the seal swelling thing too. I made the appointment with my rustproofing guy, and am bringing it in tomorrow at 11am for iits first annual Fluid Film

Which is good because here in SE MI, we got a miniscule amount of snow the other day and they already made the roads look like the salt flats

stop by an autozone and by any rubber gasket or seal. when Krown will work on your truck, get some fluid film in a jar and cover gasket with it. close lid and keep it. this way you will monitor condition of your gaskets. all this story of swelling is bs.

Agreed. I had used Krown on my '98 4Runner for years with never a leak. In fact, it looked so good that when I rolled it after 22 years (in a bad snow storm), the insurance company gave me $4,000 over their original offer when they wrote it off. (Of course, like with any insurance company, that was like pulling teeth).

My 2019 4Runner gets Krown every year on my birthday. I plan on keeping it for decades (really!).

Living in Northern Michigan I've used Krown for the last 18 years and it's the best I've ever seen. Many of my friends and much of my family swear by it in our snow/salt belt. I used to drive an hour into Canada to get it done but now I've got a location closer.

My new vehicles with Krown treatment don't even develop rust on fasteners or anywhere the treatment is applied. They also drill small holes in the rocker panels and doors to treat these problem areas.

In the past I've used several other brands of coatings frequently mentioned in forums. The biggest issue with those is they often stink, or are all goopy over everything. The Krown goes on thin and clear and stays put if done annually. I'll never use anything else and IMO it works better than the other offerings.

I just had my newish 4Runner (5K miles) done. I don't have to worry about the inside/outside of my frame rusting or anywhere else on the underside.

I've used it for 18 years on various vehicles and never had this issue.

FF is more effective at rust protection than Krown, but both are miles ahead of not using any:

Got the Fluid Film done today at 11am, it was raining HARD here in SE MI on my way home (Its a 40 minute/38 mile drive).. I was all freaked out it was going to "wash off" but the guy reassured me he 1.) uses compressed air and hot air blowers to dry the underbody BEFORE spraying, and 2.) does the same thing for a few minutes at the end to expedite it setting.

Sure enough, got home, pulled into the garage and turned in a few box fans (the truck was really wet - again it was raining hard the entire interstate ride home), just looked under with a flashlight and was pleasantly surprised that it is definitely fully coated, and nothing "washed off" like I feared. Truck was still smoking and stinking like FF burning off too.

I used this shop last year for my 97x, which will be going back for a re-treatment next week (Underline Undercoating in Port Huron, MI).

Agree - Krown, Fluid Film, Wool Wax, CRC corrosion inhibitor; ANYthing is better than doing nothing. Although after reading and watching ad nauseum, I am confident in the protection FF offers.

    Good watch:

If touched up periodically and fully reapplied annually, as long as it is applied well, I think all of these products will do a great job.

Those bare metal tests don’t mean much to me as any of these would be applied on a brand new truck with the factory undercoating fully intact. The undercarriage is also mostly protected from the elements that would wash off product unless the car is moving, which is a minority of it’s life.

Have used a combo in the past and was gonna do the same this time but decided to just go with Krown for everything + touch up with either Krown or FF throughout the year as needed. My Krown installer was excellent, catered to all my OCD detailing requests without sacrificing the outcome. Was even able to snake the wands into all body cavities without drilling ANY access holes while maintaining the warranty, since he deemed it unnecessary due to all the access points he uncovered removing door sills and carefully snaking from the holes on the bottom of the doors.

Was really impressed with the care he took in doing it. Took him a bunch of extra time this way just so we don’t have to drill. Even was extra careful with the final wash/rinse step at my request to avoid inducing swirls via a hand wash.

Super happy with the process, well worth the $150 imo. I honestly would spend like $60-70 on materials doing it myself + my time + the mess in my driveway. No brainer to have them do it while I sit in the coffee shop next door getting work done. Just need to get under there to check it + touch up if necessary when reinstalling the spare tire + skid plate.

That’s coming from someone who prefers to do things on my own and hates other people working on my cars.

Our detailer uses something called IGL Aegis Ecoclear for their undercoating and after hearing him talk about it and researching it we are getting both vehicles done with it. It goes on clear and we were told it lasts a very long time and won’t need the be reapplied for a long while.

I had my 2020 sprayed with Krown a couple weeks ago. (I just purchased) I’m in the lovely salt belt and wanted some peace of mind. I’m fairly religious about spraying down the underside after winter but wanted some protection given how prone the frame is to rust. They did a great job of getting everything coated. I’d recommend parking on a tarp for a few days as it’ll drip for 48-72 hours.
