    Greetings all,
    New to the forum,
Gonna dare to ask a question I probably already know the answer to...
Is there really “no way around/or out of”changing the knock sensor and wiring harness if I’m getting the 52 engine code?
Any help would be greatly appreciated...

Not for nothing, but are you sure it isn't knocking? Extra octane might help if that's the case.
If it is running properly, then a sensor and pigtail is in your future. I just had to do mine too.

I have wondered if you could bolt er down in a more convenient location that is easily accessible.

I'm actually surprised they only used one sensor. To me, that is the only location that would be able to detect from all 6 cylinders.
Maybe I've been working on too many German cars, but they've always had 2 sensors for 6 cylinders. I think toyota changed to that design on the 5vz too.

There isn't really any good "way around it". There are a few things that can cause that code.
    1. A faulty knock sensor
    2. A short or break in the knock sensor short harness.
    3. A short or break in the harness back to the PCM.

The PCM isn't seeing a signal from the knock sensor.

The most common culprit is the short harness. They get crispy and break.

I just got rid of the same 52 code on mine by replacing the knock sensor and harness with OEM Toyota parts. That is the only way to do it. It had an aftermarket sensor in it, and it was just junk. Buy once, cry once.

If your knock sensor is original Toyota, you may get away with only replacing the short harness, but I say replace it while you're in there. Better safe than sorry.

Don't play around with relocating the sensor. Some say they have had luck with it, but 9 times or of 10, the code returns.
