I have a 2006 SR5 2wd with the 4.7 V8. I have been getting a knock sensor code on the check engine from time to time. It doesn't always happen, but when it does its always after the vehicle has been sitting for at least 5 to 6 hours and comes on within about 5 minutes or so. I clear the code and its fine and doesn't come on again. This has been happening over the last year but not all the time. I have gone a couple of months without it re occurring. if anyone has any info thank you in advance.

Are you hearing a knock when pushing it hard? if not i can't see it as a major problem, people get many check engine warnings and then get the codes, Auto Zone gets rich selling people stuff they might or might not need.

No, it runs great with over 193,000 miles on it. Be nice on Auto Zone, I have a part time job there lol.

I wish i had a dollar for everytime someone gets a check engine light and also a flashing antiskid warning, when all it is the gas cap needs tighting.

You clean the caps o"ring keep it tight and clear the codes.

Toyota designed it to send drivers to their dealer stealers service dept. to get a $500+ fix that is not needed.

Welcome to the forum from North Carolina.

Have you had a chance to check the harness to ensure no rodent has chewed through the wiring or has a nest set up?

Had that happen about 7 yrs ago where I used to live, but have not seen any evidence of it. I did have the timing belt replaced about 18 months ago.

If there are no signs of wire damage, I would replace it if it keeps popping a code. Its job is to advance or retard the timing depending on if any detonation/knock is detected. You may not hear or feel it happening.

The issue is the intake manifold has to come off to replace the sensors, Since the problem is intermittent I want to be sure.

FSM knock sensor code troubleshooting attached. This should do the trick. Sensor may test good it problem is intermittent and you don't catch it at the right time. May want to test after sitting 5-6 hours since that seems to be when you are getting the code. Could also monitor test results while wiggling wire harness or tapping on intake manifold.

This diagram will help you find the EB1 connector. Doesn't appear you have to pull the intake manifold to get to it.

The verbal description of the EB1 location is, "Engine No.2 Wire and Engine Wire (Near the Starter)".
