I'm getting the warning in my dash display that my fob battery is low and I need to take the car to a dealership.

    Like that's going to happen!

Im sure i can replace the battery myself but I would rather not go blindly prying on the case to access it.

EDIT: Never mind, I found a video on the subject.

Going forward you can keep a spare or two (battery) in the center console. Mine appear to have life of about a year with the proximity continually activated.

Difficult to always remember to disable it when exiting the vehicle.

I started adding the key fob battery replacement to my maintenance spreadsheet. Now I just replace proactively every year. Had one start to give the warning lights while on a trip away from home.

Good idea keeping spare batteries in the rig. I have extras at home which don't help when traveling.

has it died on you that often? It seems overkill to me to replace it every year. I still haven’t had to replace mine and it’s been 3 years. I know it depends on the usage and so on but I feel like it should last at least 2 years. And if it dies on you, it’s not like you’d be stranded anyways, you can still start and drive the truck.

That’s a better idea, mainly since they’re so small it won’t take much space

Mine is going on 3 years and still works fine. I wonder why such a discrepancy. How often do you get in n out of your truck on a daily basis? I do live in AZ which is a warmer climate that most places on earth so I wonder if it has something to do with this? Also, whenever I’m parked at home in my garage, my keys stay in the 4R, unlocked, so would that save battery life as the truck is not “searching” for the key?

So where do you guys purchase your keyfob batteries from and how much do you pay for those 2032 batteries and what brand is best? Is online like ebay or Amazon any good.

2032 is probably the most common "watch battery"

You can get them almost anywhere

    Try Walmart

My neighbor had his truck stolen because he did the same. Pretty easy to open a garage. I'm also in AZ, Phoenix metro.

I live in a fairly safe neighborhood in Gilbert. I know there’s always a risk but when my neighbors leave their garage open most of the time with cars twice the value as mine, I feel like thieves would most likely go after these before mine. Also I’ve got cameras and 5 dogs that bark at anyone that steps on the driveway even at night (their favorite game is waiting for the Amazon delivery guy). I’m not saying it’s never going to happen but if they really go out of their way to want my truck, it doesn’t matter if they key is inside unlocked vs locked.
Now when I go to my in-laws on the west side I don’t even want to leave my truck outside on their driveway locked overnight.

Yeah, I'm in Tempe, so it's a little bit more rowdy than Gilbert. My neighbor's experience prompted me to put up cameras and secure things a little better. But you're right, if a thief wants something, they're generally going to get it. Unless I catch them in the act, then all bets are off.

Not that i want someone to try and steal my stuff, but I wouldn’t want to be them if they try anything. I’m lowkey ready for confrontation

When did you buy the battery? I looked at walmart, walgreens and cvs and they want 8 dollars for one battery. I live in nyc and the walmart i went to is in nassau county long island. I will go to target this weekend to see how much they want for it.

    I buy from Amazon. My 2021 needs 2032 & 2019 needs 1632. Each around $1.30ish.

I know it’s probably overkill but on New Years Day every year I do a massive battery replacement. All my FOBs, Apple Air Tags, smoke detectors etc….. All my FOBS for 2 Toyotas, one Silverado one Harley and all Air Tags all take CR2032s that I buy on Amazon (buy the Panasonic brand I found best). Also replace the spare 2032 I keep in my wife’s Rav and the 4R. The Harley can be started with switch sequence.

I changed the battery in spare key for my Dads accord when his main key needs replacing. Then I broke the damn small plastic tab and had to buy a new key so be careful with these.
