Key Fob stopped locking and unlocking doors

    About two weeks after the purchase of a new 2024 4Runner SR5, the key fob quit unlocking and locking the doors using the buttons on the fob. Everything thing works when using the touch to the handles and the car starts and runs fine. Had the alarm people out twice. They tore the car apart and said it is not the alarm sold by Toyota at time of purchase. Anyone else had this problem? Thanks for any information!

    Welcome. Both fobs act that way? Before the alarm it was working?

    This usually happens when someone tries to turn down the volume of the beeps when locking or unlocking the doors. It seems to be a bug in the radio. The keyless transmitter signal gets turned off. The fix is either go to dealership and have them reset the keyless, or get a Carista app and do it yourself. If you go to the dealer have them adjust all of your customized settings. Like holding the unlock button to roll down all your windows at once.

    Yes doing it with both fobs. Worked fine for about three weeks after alarm was installed. I found a couple posts buried in a forum on this site after I posted. People have corrected the issue with a Carista. I ordered one. I was on the fence with getting one of those anyway. Apparently, it is a fairly common problem after you switch any of the settings for the locks and doors. I had just changed mine to open all four doors with the key fob opening. I noticed right after that.

    Start your subscription, usually only one month is needed. Follow the prompts to customizable features. Adjust all settings. You will be surprised how adjustable most functions are.

    Normally yes. I accidentally turned my remote off the first day by turning down the volume of the door lock/unlock beeps. Found the fix on this forum.
    Mind you it should be a free adjustment by the selling dealer. I use Carista to adjust friends and family’s cars as well as my own.

    OK Thank You very much. I am trying to avoid a trip to the dealer for a minor issue like this. Always such a pain in the ass at the dealer.

    It’s worth it for that reason alone. Good luck. Don’t be afraid to try all the different options like turning down the volume of your directionals, shutting off your seatbelt chime.

    I wanted to check if this is the OEM keyless entry/alarm or an aftermarket alarm system, based off you stating that it worked for about three weeks after it was installed. If aftermarket, What brand did you go with?

    It was one they sold me at the dealer at purchase. I think it was KARR.

    Do you have a separate fob for the KARR system that is used opposed to the OEM fob?

    Also do you have the KARR app on your phone? I do recall reading about the KARR fob would activate and deactivate the alarm (only) but would only lock/unlock via Bluetooth on the KARR app. Just throwing out a few things I have heard over the years with these systems.

    No separate fob. I had the KARR people out here twice. They tore it apart twice. No problem found with the alarm. Since looking around this forum and hearing from members, it appears this is not a rare thing. I will try the Carista thing when it gets here in a couple hours. That seems to be the easiest. If not, off to the dealer.

    For any of you that were wondering. The Carista arrived and after the usual set up, it took me 10 seconds to fix the issue. Remote lock was marked as disabled. Just clicked enable and it worked. Cost me 50 dollars, but worth it to me to avoid the dealer. To all that helped, Thank You!
