Keep or Sell my OEM?

My gut instinct tells me to keep all of OME after I modified my 2023 TRD Off-Road Prime. It has the XPreditor package, but I replaced the steps with RCI Rocksliders. Should I sell the steps or keep them and maybe...someday...who knows when I sell my modified 4R? Will it fetch a better price if the OEM comes with it, or should I strip off the mods and replace them with the stored OEM parts? Selling the OEM and buying more stuff seems like the preferred way to go by some. It would be good to have the extra money, but it's a pain to list them and meet some guy in a Walmart parking lot.

 

Think you mean OEM as in stock parts.

I sold mine. I had no intention of returning it to stock when I ever sold. Its really up to you stock 4Rs may be easier to sell as not everyone wants a modified one.

If you need to sell stock parts in order to fund mod's I'd suggest saving some $ on the side first. Not really a cheap hobby and if shit breaks.

 

Ya, crazy how much I am spending. It's only a couple of thousand but man, I want more. I feel I am scratching an itch I can barely reach.
I have a friend who owns a TRD Taco and just spent 8K on a turbocharger.

Sell...don't clutter your garage and you can always find OEM parts from people just like you if you ever want to go back to OEM.

 

I've had 4 things taken off my 2018 4Runner since I bought it a couple of months ago - running boards, OEM roof rails and OEM halogen headlights and fog lights. The used cars and parts departments of the local Toyota dealer wouldn't offer anything for the running boards, which I thought might have some value because not every 4Runner comes with them (or steps or rock sliders). I knew the other stuff was hopeless, so left all of it at the 4x4 shop to dispose of or give away. I can't imagine anybody who would buy a TRD Off Road is going to say I wish it had steps instead of rock sliders. I'd get rid of it, or offer it for nothing in the buy/sell forum here to anybody who will pick it up or pay for the packaging and shipping.

 

Welcome. I have always kept my OEM parts and sold them with any car that I have sold. The guy that bought my TL Type S ended up bringing a truck to pick up all of the extra parts. Suspension, control arms, winter wheels/tires, side skirts, extra oil, coolant, filters, etc. LOL!
You could also go back to stock and sell your aftermarket parts if that's the route that you choose.

on my motorcycles I've always kept the stock parts and when selling the bike a couple years later I would put all the parts back and sell the bike as it came from the dealership then the parts separately (aftermarket exhaust, etc...). That's how I would get the most money back.

For the 4R, I've sold the TRD Pro rack and the predator steps as I will never use these. I also never plan to sell my 4r so it is slightly different. I kept my stock headlights because I dont want to pay full price to get new ones when the Morimoto go bad

 

If the stock headlights were bad enough to replace, why would you ever consider putting them back? I've also swapped out the OEM headlights for Morimotos. If the Morimotos go bad down the road, I'll have to replace them with another aftermarket LED light kit because the OEMs will still be unacceptable.

 

I actually like the stock healights (LED for MY22), just not the DRL.

I got the Morimotos for a smoking deal that I couldnt pass on otherwise I would've have kept the stock ones.
Once the morimotos die (unless they lasts 15+ years) I'd rather put back the stock headlights , where all I have to do is replace the lightbulb if it goes bad instead of the whole headlight assembly.

 

Oh my bad. I didn't realize you had a '22, should have looked at your profile. If I had those lights I wouldn't have replaced them. The OEM headlights and fog lights on my 2018 Limited are so bad that I'd never put them back on the vehicle.

 

The hazard of having a large enough storage area is the old parts tend to pile up. I have the oem OR shocks, skid plates, side mirrors, and several oem upper grilles sitting in a corner of my storage/work shed. I did manage to sell off the Predator steps once replaced, though.

I'm that guy that plans for everything though. So if i keep my old stuff, i have it if something breaks or i decide to trade i can put it back on, or if i get in a wreck i can put everything in the new one and all wrecked one, etc. And my garage is proof evident of the clutter. Lol

 

Clutter vs. unclutter, that is the question. I am keeping my OEM tail lights. That's just smart and proper planning for when my Morimotos fizzle. My nagging question is, how long will I keep this 4r? Even though it is my daily driver, it is also my weekend warrior. I drove it to NC for a basic off-road class in the Uwharrie National Forest. Then to western NC for a little overnight near the Linville Falls and Gorge. The more I drive it, the more I'm hooked.

 

Sell all the OEM take-offs... Those may no longer be desirable or fashionable in the future.
I heard hybrid 4Runner is in pipeline for 2024.

 

I have 6 nights at the Price Lake campground on the Blue Ridge Parkway starting on Tuesday night and plan to hike Hawksbill Mountain, Table Rock and the Chimneys on the east side of the Linville Gorge.

Keept my OEM parts from my 2012 accura that I traded in for the 4 Runner. Had the full exhaust, suspension, pulley, J-pipes, rims, etc. They were low balling saying this is not OEM, that is not OEM. I said no problem, I can put it back or bring it in. I got thousands more with the OEM stuff. So it might be worth it if you have the room to store, I stored my OEM parts for 11 years.
