Hey folks, I've done a front coilover swap on my rig 5 times now and it has been such a huge pain every time. After this last time doing it, I put together a little video outlining the only technique that has worked for me-- removing the sway bar end links.

Hope this helps someone out there! I'm sure it will help me when I inevitably do it again.

There are also some bonus tips on doing the Westcott Designs TRD Pro collar lift. It's tricky to do at home, but not impossible.

Would love to hear from you in the comments if you have a better way!

Thanks for the video. Seems like a great way to swap shocks on a KDSS 4R.

I personally used the method of unbolting the lower control arms from the steering knuckle, then using a floor jack to lower the LCA with the 3 top nuts plus the center nut removed, to let the tension off the coil spring. After removing the shock & spring, I put the new shock in the coil spring, and reversed the procedure to compress the coil and shock with the floor jack. I pretty much followed the same procedure with the KDSS sway bar end links.

Would your method prevent needing an alignment afterward, or is that still necessary?

Just saw your comment on the video (thanks)!

The method in the video doesn’t disturb any of the alignment adjustment points: tie rod adjusters, LCA eccentric bolts. So if the suspension height hasn’t been modified, you could get away with not doing an alignment. But if the height changes, the alignment will need to be performed for three new “neutral” suspension position. It will help the tires last longer.

Makes sense, thanks. In my case, the height changed. I did get an alignment, which I figured was needed, since I loosened the LCA cam bolts.
