I have a 2022 4 runner has anyone used the K&N air filter, if so did you notice any performance improvement?

The stock filter does a really good job of flowing air. K&N only flows well because it filters less. Also, cleaning it is an unnecessary pain, and you run the risk of over-oiling it , which will wreck your mass air flow sensor.

There’s no performance increases. As mentioned, they flow better because they filter less which is why they require oil. The engine is still only going to flow as much as it needs and the heads allow.

You have to give credit K&N wins sending dirt into the engine per tests. LoL :p:p

They should claim the extra dirt keeps the cylinder walls and intake valves clean. :nuclear:

I put one in mine at 10k miles and just hit 59k this morning. I’ve only had to take it out and clean it once. Used the cleaning kit, the spray oil on the filter after it dried really good. I noticed slightly better acceleration and a little better MPG like .5-1mpg better in the city and highway. Gonna probably clean it again at 60k. I have nothing but good to say, no MAF sensor issues because I’m not over oiling it and then popping right back in like I suspect some others who have had the MAF issues might have done. Anywho…that’s my input.

I wouldn't recommend a K&N with any newer vehicle. Best alternative is an AEM Dry flow air filter. I have had mine in there for a few years now and only blow it out once a year.

Update, actually 4 years now and still looks good. Filters better too. lol

Another push for the AEM Dry Flow. Mine is 8 years old and has over 117,000 miles on it. I rinse it with warm water and let it dry in the sun while I change my oil. If the sun isn't shining, I prop it against a box fan to dry.
For a few years I had a K&N in my old FJ-40. I didn't have an oil problem but, the dust that made it past the filter showed up down the throat of the carburetor. I replaced it with an AEM Dry Flow and the results were good.

K&N is good at marketing but not at filtering.

Sarcasm alert.. Gotta lead with that to control the burn..

Would this be the filter to use for guaranteed 5k Oil changes. Kinda like a helping hand.

Don’t do it. Many people forget to clean it and oil it properly. Too much oil and it will damage you MAF sensor. Too little and it’s not functioning correctly. Stick with OEM or Wix.

K&N is worse than waste of money, it actually harms your truck unless you do extra maintenance to oil it, in which case it is only somewhat worse at filtering than stock. There is also no power gains, as stock intake is not restrictive in any way and already provides cold air.

It's a 1GR-Fe. Lol. Short of a supercharger, anything promising to provide NOTICEABLE performance gains is a scam, and will most likely hurt it's longevity.

My reasons for purchasing an AEM filter was first, their reputation and longevity.
It was a, buy once - cry once purchase. Some one else's purchase of x number of stock filter will be, in the long run, cost more for them, than my one time purchase.
Mine cost $40 back in 2016.

Another K&N filter thread, ferchrissake. Use a K&N, it's fine. Don't use a K&N, it's fine. The distracted driver who smashes into you is fine with any air filter.

One-at-this-price stripper. Bought new 34 yrs ago, a $13K leftover. Added Detroit TruTrac, 1”rear spring spacer and “pinstripes”… Factory AC kit and roof rack bought at dealer cost at time of purchase, still blows ice cold 32yrs later. 2022 AG ORP all stock.
Purchased a used ATV with a freshly rebuilt engine. The very first thing I did was to pull the K&N filter and put it on the exhaust of my disc sander……

i hear the oils in the K&N filter can gum up the MAF.

    Hey
I ran a K&N filter for months and months, perhaps even 2 years or more but I can’t remember didn’t keep track. Performance do not noticeably increase.
Then in the last year I properly cleaned my MAF and throttle body for the first time since buying new (2016)… they weren’t very dirty or oily, luckily. @TrailSpecial22
Thanks to this forum, I taught myself how to clean those, and switched filters to a FRAM EXTRA GUARD CA10835, whereby I thought that felt like an increase in performance compared to K&N believe it or not.
Next I want WIX or OE w/ prefilter. No more snake oil :p

It wasn't the filter that increased performance it was all those stickers.
