JustATallDude's 19 Voodoo Blue 4Runner Build Thread

I'm going to give this whole thing a go, not a writer by any means lol

I've had my 4Runner almost 3 years now and decided it was finally time to dedicate a thread to it, mostly to keep everything in check! The day we got it:
We then took it on a 4 hour road trip to Connecticut for my partners cousins wedding so that was a good way to get used to it's size.

First mods done were window tint, TRD Intake, and a Gibson exhaust. Had a nice little screw up with the exhaust. Kit came with 2 different tail pipes and my dad didn't believe me that we should try the other one:

That was fun...

So after we fixed that, the next thing was probably adding the cheapo raptor lights getting rid of the shelves and adding the predator steps for looks. Then I got the Eagle eye taillights:


Ended up getting Anzos for the sequential turn signal and gave these to my mom for her 4Runner. Then next up was adding the A-pillar grab handle:

 

I think the next big thing was moving out of the shitty apartment with terrible neighbors and moving into our house. Next mod was adding the turn signals. Thank you very very much Old Red! Probably one of my favorite mods I've done. Did accidentally brake the mirror holder so I had to redo it a couple of times. Installed the TRD Pro Lift springs from Eibach as well as 285/70/17 Falken Wildpeaks. Then I installed some RCI rocksliders! Got them through a group buy here, probably wouldn't have them otherwise lol

After that I think was the F246 Factory Style Wheels, 17x8.5 and I went for the 0 offset. That was a shit show getting that work done. But it did end up getting done!

What was the shit show about the wheels?

 

I had the service department of the dealership I work at do the work, I had the appointment scheduled for like 2 weeks, had both my dads and my vehicles there ready for the swaps, they just decided nah we aren't going to do this work today. It wasn't good. I ended up going to the Honda dealership down the road to get it done lol

 

Ok, thought it was going to be an issue with FSW. Heard mixed reviews on them but I like their products and am considering them for wheels in the future.

 

I'm super happy with the wheels, they've been on for over a year now and they look just as good as they did when I first got them. I highly recommend them

 

I know I'll be forgetting a lot of stuff and there's definitely a good chunk of little stuff like the Sprint Booster (pretty worth it imo) DDI seat jackers (also very worth it) Hood Scoop vinyl to help not get blinded daily, Front recovery points, but the next big big mod was doing Old Red's AMD mod
Definitely how it should've come from the factory.

After that there's only a couple of other things I really did, I got a set of Evil Headlights loaded with Morimoto LED projectors and that really finished off the look of the vehicle for me.

Then the newest mods, the Supercharger! I really didn't have a huge problem with the way it drove before, but I'm not going to say no to more power! My order experience was a long one. I had ordered it on July 15th, received it mid-December, and had to wait 3 weeks to get it installed, finally got the vehicle back on Jan 3rd and have been loving it since

This is the real thing that really changed the vehicle. It's so much more confident on the road and that noise will absolutely never get old. Oh I did also have to go back to the stock air box.

I do have an Autometer boost gauge installed just to keep an eye on whats going on, just need to get a blue color light cap for it or an LED.

 

That's kind of catches everything up I think. This is how it sits as of this morning.

 

I should add a driver side grab handle just for a phone mount lol

i was wondering if you were gonna get the DD seat jackers. they are near the top of my list for next purchases. how do you like them? did you do the front and rear on the drivers side?

 

I only did the fronts. It definitely made the seat much more comfortable on long trips. I only have maybe an inch of head room so I'd be concerned about hitting the roof with both front and rears

Appreciate it very much lol, yeah my partner is quite a bit shorter than me. It's comical watching them get into the vehicle. If it was any taller i'd need to install a little fold out ladder for them

 

Is that the Magnuson kit? I want that once they crack the ‘22 ecu

 

If there's enough interest for 2020+ software, I can ask D3 performance, I got sick and tired of waiting for a s/c software that'll work on 2020+ Tundra I reached out to D3, and got everything to work.

The screwup with the exhaust? I assume you melted the bumper cover?

I had the same problem with my daughter’s FJ cruiser.

 

I'm surprised there still isn't anything tuning wise for 2020+ yet. I'd be interested.

 

I don’t think California is certifying any bolt on performance modifications for new cars anymore.

If it can’t pass smog, I’m guessing half of these manufacturers which are stationed out of California anyway don’t want to go through the trouble.

I thought about buying a four-cylinder Tacoma, but the turbocharger is for off-road use only in California. I would still get a few years out of it because you don’t have to smog a new vehicle… Yet.

 

Quick little update. Installed an aFe Power CAI for the Supercharger. Looks great and I do think it added some whine to the Magnuson.

 

Just realized, you have a 2019 Pro, as do I. My dash only contains the clock, yours has
other info. WTF?

 

Look up Old Red on Instagram, he makes wiring harnesses that make in just plug right in. Those units are getting a little harder to find so the sooner the better if it's something you wanted to do. I also have his Turn signal mod and just received his floor light harness the other day. Going to be tackling that on Sunday probably. Makes some really good stuff and I recommend him very very highly!

I have a mount over the dash in this area and don't every look at the clock, just wondering why you had that display.

 

Tried to get the 2022 headunit upgrade done yesterday using the harness from AutoHarnessHouse. I bought the headunit on eBay and it appears this one was a dud. No video output but it did have audio. The Amp i bought new from my parts department and luckily the amp does still work with the old head unit so I don't have to do all of this again at least.



Now to return that unit back to where I got it and start that search again. Any one got one laying around? lol

Unfortunately, I also have to send the harness back to get the navigation parts wired in as they forgot to do that. Not too big of a deal but definitely a bummer.

 

Finished up the day installing Old Reds footwell light mod. Took 5 minutes and looks great! Will be adding a pictures hopefully tonight once it's dark out.

 

Can you share what prompted the need to swap the TRD intake back to stock?

 

The throttle body side of the intake wouldn't clear to get the lines connected. We might've been able to make it fit but I ended up giving the TRD one to my mother for hers and putting an aFe intake on mine.

 

Finally remembered to go out when it was dark to take a picture of the floor lights. I really like them and it adds a nice touch to the interior at night.

 

Finally found another headunit after the first one was a dud. Got it all installed and it looks killer. Waiting for the Nav harness now from my parts department and can't get the Android Auto working. I'm hoping (but doubting) that the nav has something to do with it. Otherwise I'll either try one of those bluetooth adapters for the AA or worst case switch back to iPhone
