    gorgeous. I wouldnt do anything right now but enjoy it. Spend some time on here and think about what/how you're going to use it. Are you going to off road? etc. I spent a lot of time on this site when I bought mine asking about leveling kits etc then did research my own own. We bought it to do off roading and overlanding. So i then started saving for a lift kit, bigger tires etc. I then went to the Toyota Jamboree and educated myself on rock sliders and spoke to the people there if i should get them etc. Then when we did go off roading I noticed we couldnt see well so I added diode dynamics lights. My point in telling you this is without doing research and planning how you're going to use it, you could throw a lot of money at it. Also, dont go cheap as thats just a waste of money (ask me how i know). Plan, save and go with quality and you wont be disappointed. I replaced the fog lights with Diode Dynamics and Ive literally had them submerged and they didnt even flicker. I am now at the age where I will spend more for quality than doing the job twice. I also ran all my lighting to a cluster to control them. Now i can add lights in 30 minutes while knowing it is correctly done (fused, relayed etc.). I know the feeling of buying your first 4R and how you want to just modify, modify, modify. Trust me and the thousands of others on this site, dont rush. But like i said, first, what are you going to do with it? If its just moderate off roading etc. Just leave it alone. It will do that as is. But first go off roading and see what needs to be done, go camping or do whatever you want and then decide. Thats a gorgeous rig as it is. If it was me, id really think about what im going to use the 4R for and then start buying stuff. Ive taken over 2 years of being on this site and learning from others. For example, just added some bump stops, not because it was the cool thing to do, but because when we were on the trails I heard it smack. Im also swapping out the skid plate, why because the OEM plate had to be dropped every time you changed the oil filter. Did I need to do it? No. BUT as im getting older, lifting that skid plate is becoming more and more challenging. Just take your time and think about it.

    Now what i would do immediately is if you dont know the maintenance history Id start there. Get everything done, fluids changed etc. Belts, spark plugs, coolant, diff (front and back), transfer case and transmission. Thats where id be spending my money out of the gate.

    My 2017 SR5 has half the mileage. And I have not yet planned the detailed deep maintenance of 100,000 plus miles.
    I agree with the advice here-do all the fluids and lubes under vehicle and under hood.
    Proper lube & fluid maintenance prevents larger repairs. Also even Toyota dealers are not always the best place to go-if you need a Camry serviced a dealer is probably okay. Read up on the many things proper maintenance requires so you can avoid skipping something important. I am lucky that my local dealer service writer owns a 4runner and is helpful.
    Enjoy the the highways and trails, then you can develop upgrades to suit your travels.


    All I have added to my rig is highway friendly AT tires and factory rock rails to protect rocker panels & body.
    I am putting together a under hood air compressor so I can air down and up for trails and wiring for a mobile 50 Watt GMRS radio.

    I was amazed at how capable a 4Runner is in stock form. I’m with @Hungryhawk on this one, AT tires and rock sliders are probably good enough for 90% of off-road drivers. New skid plates can usually wait until the stock ones get beat up. Lots of ways to spend money, funding your Roth IRA each year is another approach. Welcome to the forum!

    Welcome and I concur here with @Dabigono .
    Very critical to baseline your own maintenance if possible. Then drive it in stock form for a while and then appreciate the simple stuff first then add little by little. Don't go crazy :spending: right away.

    Great deal. Beautiful 4Runner!

    As suggested, start with the fluid changes and greasing the drive shafts. That will acquaint you with the tools and procedures for that piece of basic maintenance. You might find some stripped bolts and rusty spots that need to be addressed.

    Pay attention to rubber bushings that may be getting worn and hardened. Fresh bushing are not expensive, easy to install and make a noticeable improvement in ride quality. Look for general wear and tear and start thinking about undercoatings; even if you’re in Arizona, think about undercoating.

    Wife & I bought our ’14 Trail Premium 11/11/24 with 145,00 miles. Beautiful day, great weather for a road trip. First thing I noticed were the marginal tires and rough riding suspension with some fluid leaks around the shock seals. No big deal. After years riding Icon and Bilstein on our FJ, tires and new shocks & springs were an easy decision.

    We opted for Eibach stage 1 and Michelin Defender LTX MS2 285/70/17. Huge improvement over old stock equipment. We were lucky. Long history of dealer maintenance, nothing had been touched beyond most basic maintenance; oil, filters, brakes, tires.

    Big believer in 4Runners, Tacoma’s and FJ’s. The 1 GR FE is a wee bit mechanically noisy but an extremely reliable and durable V6 Toyota motor.

    I think, the gen 5 4Runners will age well and be highly valued in the future.
