Heading to our cottage in Pennsylvania. Form our house in NM to our cottage in Pa is 2000 miles one way. Taking our 2 dogs and our 2 falconry birds. Our first stop was Amarillo, Tx. Stayed at Homes2Suites right next to the Big Texan. Walked over to the Big Texan for dinner. So many people there and one guy did eat the full 72 oz steak. Heading to Bentonville, Arkansas today. 9AE278BE-6927-4B04-8B25-45F1592872E9.jpg759F5293-5F72-4481-AFA9-A3323937D87B.jpg9AE278BE-6927-4B04-8B25-45F1592872E9.jpg 759F5293-5F72-4481-AFA9-A3323937D87B.jpg

Put locks on both wheels of the trailer at night. I also have a Lone Star GPS tracking unit inside the trailer and every time the trailer moves, I receive a text and an email notifying me it’s moving. Then I go to the app on my phone and it shows exact location of the trailer. All this because a couple years ago, my trailer was stolen and never recovered. Here is the notice I receive when the trailer is moving. 8C5AEE3B-E443-400C-8D2D-91166BE1179B.png

Great photos! If you're into barbeque, check out Wright's BBQ when you get to Bentonville. They do authentic Central Texas style barbeque cooked on 1,000 gallon Moberg offset smokers. The banana pudding dessert is excellent as well. I try to get there every time I am in Northwest Arkansas.

Jynarik, we live in the super small town of Hanover, NM. It’s about 17 miles out of Silver City, NM in the mountains. The only official building in Hanover is the Post Office.

Icestud, I have 2 birds that are traveling with us on this trip. One is my female Harris Hawk and the other is a female red tail. The red tail is a friends bird ( traveling nurse) that I have been taking care of for about 2 years while my friend does her thing making money. This trip I left my golden eagle with my friend in Albuquerque.

Got into Bentonville around 5pm. Hotel was having problems with their computer, so, went to dinner while they tried to correct the issue. Benton Brewery was close to the hotel. They had several food vendors and we chose the Cajun catfish po boys and fried pickles along with red beans and rice. Food was really good and the place was absolutely packed especially outdoors. They also had an area where you could sit with your dogs and drink/eat while the dogs ran around inside a fenced in area. Traffic in this town is a nightmare for us because we live in a small town with no traffic. My wife is going to an art museum this morning and then we will continue our journey.

Love seeing your posts if your trips to and from NM to PA. Each time I think gosh I can’t wait to retire and drive across this great land myself and just take it all in without being in any rush

Mac1usa, each year we take a different route. If we have time in our travels, we stay off turnpikes and toll roads. Love those back country small towns.

Nice photos. What type of fuel economy do you receive with the cargo trailer? Any airbags in the rear?

Matt83, the fuel useage depends on the terrain. Some areas we have been getting 15.8mpg other areas we are getting 13.3 mpg. The trailer is a 5x8 V nose that weighs 860 lbs and maybe 200 pounds inside. We are driving 70 to 75 mph and 500 miles each day. Today, we will drive around 600 miles to get to Pittsburg, Pa.

Late Friday we finished our return trip from Santa Fe to NJ, probably along much the same route. We saw the Big Texan in Amarillo, but it was too soon to stop. Our first night was in Tulsa, second in Richmond, IN. Altogether it was 30 hours of driving time over three days. The trip out was more fun, since we had longer stops along the way.

Spent the night in Pittsburg, Pa. In the morning, I will drop off a Hawk box that needs to be repaired by the guy that made it 25 years ago. Then we will finish our drive to our cottage that is about 4 hours away. Yesterday, we were getting 13.0 to 13.5 mpg pulling the trailer at about 70-75mph. All the big rigs were passing us along the highway.

After 5 days on the road, we arrived at our cottage yesterday afternoon. Today we have unloaded the birds, dogs and all our gear. Now to do some shopping to get food into the house for our one month stay. Saw the resident bald eagle doing a fly by over the creek. Took this photo this morning before the fog burned off.

Mac1USA, yes, the Loyalsock Creek is a famous fly fishing creek. Trout and small mouth bass.
