I currently own a Tesla, got rid of my 04 4Runner for a Bronco but sold the bronco and looking to get back in a 5th gen.

There’s a tread that shows the other vehicles that 4Runner owners drive and it includes Tesla and just about everything else made. Of course you are welcome on this forum….

I’m full of conflicts as I own a Toyota, a Honda and a Mazda. I paddle both kayaks and canoes. I like wine and beer. I have a mountain bike and a road bike. I can go on and on.

    Cheers!

Who cares? This never shows everything anyway.
No, it is not acceptable. You will be strung up by your shorthairs while dominatrix witches will punish you demonically for all eternity. You are lower than the scum of the earth. You are excrement.

Seriously, it's fine, but that other 4Runner forum is the politics forum. They say they're not, but they are.

We will like you more with the 4Runner and Tesla combo over the Bronco and Tesla combo.

Imagine living your life wondering what the opinions of others are regarding the type of vehicle you drive/own. Life's way to short to worry about that. Drive what you want.

Nope. Not most of us, at least. EV's have their purpose. I don't want one, until they improve some things. But, I have nothing against people not wanting to pay for gas.

I think the issue comes up when EVs are touted as the “great solution” to being more ecological, and more sustainable. That bragging is what folks get their backs up, as it’s simply not the case. All vehicles have their place with pros and cons, there is no free lunch. I’ve been in a P90D when it first came (neighbour down the street), and no doubt it is pretty cool and fast.

I like EVs, but I fear autonomous driving as I know where it’s headed. Have several friends in insurance industry and they are looking at this as an opportunity in stability regarding claims. The minute autonomous vehicles exist in mass, and their stats for accidents on average continue to perform better than humans, there will be a push to have people stop driving due to risk. That initial push will come in the form of higher insurance rates. The 2nd push will come in driver retesting to retain your license.

Agreed. This is why I'm in no hurry to get one. It's not the electric motors that are an issue. It's the batteries.

This is something that scares me, too. I think self driving cars are a neat idea, until they try to mandate them. Even if they should be safer than human drivers, I don't like thinking that a glitch could cause my car to drive off a bridge, or into incoming traffic. And, I just don't like the idea of not actually being able to drive.

However, I wouldn't hate the idea of drivers having to retest periodically. Or, at least it would be nice if they would actually require people to know how to drive to use the freeway. From what I see, the worst drivers on the freeway are generally just clueless.

I have a 4Runner for all of my outdoor fun (fly fishing, camping, search and rescue, etc). I had a Model S and now drive a Taycan 4S (best car ever!). My wife drives a Model 3. I love the performance and driving experience of electric cars - so much better than gasoline, but for now gas & diesel are still key for many use cases.

I'm hearing 50-60 amps @ 240 volts. My brother installs them occasionally, and runs a 60 amp circuit. But, on their website, it looks like some can plug into a 50 amp receptacle.

Bob, 220volt, but, not sure of the amp. This one is a quick charge capable of a full charge in about 4 hours. Our cottage is in Williamsport, Pa on the banks of a fishing/kayaking creek. My daughter lives in DC and every time they would come to our cottage, they would have to go all the way cross town and wait for an hour while getting a partial charge.

My buddy used to have a Tesla along with a 5th Gen 4runner. Got rid of the Tesla but still got the 4runner. Most likely will buy 2023 4runner TRD Pro for its heated steering and Toyota safety sense that is missing from his old 4runner.

I'd love to have an EV for a commuter along with my 4R.

I'm not into Tesla's, but I dig the retro/futuristic styling of the Hyundai Ioniq 5.

Money no object, I think the Rivians are super cool.

I think the EV world needs more drivers like us. 70-80 mph is good and no need to hit 140. I have a Fisker I’m looking at too, but you’ll have to pry my 4Runner from me.

I like to keep vehicles a very long time (15+ years) so I personally will need to see how these hold up over time but that is just me. I have heard also that EV cost more to insure since they cost more overall (not sure how true this is).

Personally I hope EV's take off, that way theoretically there will be more gasoline supply, lower prices and more gas for me to use :)

You would be surprised at the amount of people that randomly target my wife because she drives a Tesla. However to your point they tend to always be driving larger American trucks like ram 2500 usually old and beat up ones. 4runner owners are probably a different crowd. The irony is that these guys who are so nuts about driving a domestic don’t realize Tesla is too.

Not sure. They’re very different vehicles with different strengths and weaknesses. While I personally like 4Runner more , it doesn’t mean it is technically better.

yes rivian are super cool. But couple things: the brand has been building cars for about one year only. Second in the entire Los Angeles county there is only ONE service center for them. Third, Rivian doesn’t have a sufficient enough network of chargers unlike Tesla. I agree with you the Ioniq 5 is actually a better car than Tesla but the main thing that held me back is the fact that you have to rely on third party charging which is pretty bad.

The problem is many don’t realize many domestic name plates are not even made in the USA anymore either. GM trucks many come from Mexico, many Buicks imported from China, Ford Maverick Mexico, the list goes on. My GM neighbor teased me about my Japanese Accord with his Buick Encore…. Once I showed him his Encore came from China and my Accord is from Ohio he did not know what to say. In his defense he is a GM retiree so maybe he did not research it much but can’t assume domestic name means domestic vehicle
