Fallout from stock market crash that happened 3 months before. I didn't realize my 1998 4runner was 1 in 1 million, I feel like there should be way more out there still

I’m not sure if that is a miss print or what or they didn’t get one quite done for 1998 kinda high compared to the rest of the years I think someone had fat fingers. And the media is also know for false facts! Lol

Oil Industry, and Auto Industry (and many others) cratered at this time, gas prices surged crazy high, it was called "The Great Recession". I worked at a brokerage house at the time, it was not a financially happy time.

"Annual sales of the 4Runner continued in the six-digit region for long. However, the post-2007 oil crisis, which witnessed high fuel prices, saw the demand for 4Runners decline. Annual sales reached a nadir in 2009 when Toyota moved only 19,675 models."

None. Bone Stock. EXCEPT: Brushguard, tow hitch, both welded to the frame. It's good to have friends and a fully equipped garage!
It's funny, how many, or how few, really, of the 87's were made. Why?
I went over to the store in my tiny little town, 1 stop sign type place. When we pulled up to the 4-way stop, we looked. The other three that pulled up about the same time were...87 4Runners!! All 4 different colors, different mods, different lifts, different tires, but essentially, all the same truck.
You wouldn't think, that few having been made, that 4 of us would even BE in the same tiny little town, and it is SMALL town. Maybe 10,000. MAYBE. At the same stop sign, at the same time. We all sat there a minute, looking at each other's trucks, then away we went, waving farewell to one another, shaking our heads, but all smiling. It's never happened again, but it was an unlikely, unusual, event. Kinda neat, though, and when I saw how few 87's had been made overall, it was an even more unusual event. After 35 years, you wouldn't think there would be even very many left, let alone in the same place at the same instant.

There are an amazing number of older 4Runners, and other Toyotas in general, in K Falls. The nearest "large" city anywhere nearby. About 20 miles from the town I live in. Every fall, they come out of the woodwork, new tires, oil changes, you name it. Everyone getting set for winter. The stealership gets flooded about now. You can see it when you drive past. They're lined up. Many of the mechanic shops around town, too.

    Have fun, all!
    Pat☺

    Bone stock!
I had something very similar happen to me except it wasn’t a stop sign and 4runnners but I was in an ice cream shop with my girlfriend and the three other guys she was sleeping with were there too. No waving at all!

None were first on the list. There was an earliest of the group. He got to order first and get four scoops of cookies and cream in a chocolate covered waffle cone while the rest of use betas had to settle for soft serve in a cup.
