I hope this isn't to dumb to ask, I installed a Harbor Frieght 12,000 lb winch on the front of my 1990 4X4, couldn't resist it was on sale. It's my first winch.

I read all the instructions, read some off the online winch shootouts as well.

The instructions say if the winch is submerged it should be immediately serviced. So what about regular rain (which we dont see much of here) elements and car washes ? I'm lazy and like the drive thru Terribles car wash.

Is it safe to do that?

    Yes.

Submersion is a lot different than water cascading over it.

Very true, can't say never but I doubt it will ever be submarined, so regular washing etc it should be fine.

    Well I'm a newbie what can I say......LOL.

Google is your friend, which I did after I posted this question. Appears to be perfectly fine to do carwashes but a cover is recommended.
