Hello all! I have an intro and request.

I’ve been going back and forth with a dealership these past few weeks trying to source an ORP with KDSS, which is apparently quite difficult. But it has finally been done! If all goes as planned, I’ll pick it up 3/22. I’m not sure of the direction I want to take the build yet, but it will be a daily driver and road trip truck for the wife, dog, and myself. Guaranteed changes are a better roof rack and improving the lighting.

I had hoped for a truck with a slide out deck for the dog, loading stuff, etc. but they are several months out and even then, not guaranteed. After some research, it appears they can be DIY installed, and it seems easy. So, I’m located in Atlanta GA and if anyone has a deck they would potentially like to swap for a plain rear, I’m all ears.

Thanks and I look forward to learning much here!

2021 white ORP KDSS here! I love it, and I’m glad I have KDSS. It’s fantastic over the wife’s non KDSS.

Just picked up a white ORP with KDSS last night. Actually found it when using an Atlanta zip code in the inventory finder and it ended up being in NC ironically. I played the game of using different areas of the Southeast trying to locate an available 4R ORP at a dealer that was actually wiling to negotiate. Wasn’t actually looking for KDSS but ended up with it as it was available when the original vehicle I was calling about was already sold.
I too was hoping for the slide out tray but it wasn’t in the 4R I ended up buying.

Welcome to a great forum and love my 2020 ORP with KDSS. Mine has the slide out tray. Had my dealer pull the vehicle from inventory at SE Toyota. I provided them the inventory number.

I found a dealer that was finally willing to listen to what I wanted, not try to change my mind, and tell me what inventory is coming to the region before we talked money. It took about a week of searching, but I finally found one who did and they’re getting my business.

Gotcha, i didn't know if there was a way to see whats in port or coming over without using a dealer. So far my local dealers i have not had luck with, pretty amazed how hard this thing is to find. I have cast a pretty far net and no dice, found one dealer about 4 hrs away had 3 coming in 6-8wks from now but all were accounted for and had deposits on them. If the wife would want another color i would be all good lol..I have found many white and black ORP.

What difference are you seeing between the KDSS and the non KDSS?

So my experience is I drive both 4Runners almost daily. Hers is setup to take kids, here and there and everywhere. Mine is setup for me to go to work, cold weather gear in the back etc.

So the biggest difference I see is body roll. Around corners my 2021 feels very much planted, around the neighborhood, on the highways, I really enjoy driving the KDSS equipped 4R a lot better. Just all around I like the way it handles compared to my wife’s.

I have played a little bit Offroad near our cabin, I can see a difference in articulation between the two. The KDSS 4R just has a lot more articulation, so much that I need to test fit my next set of tires at full stuff and see if they will rub.

I know everyone will tell you there isn’t any difference on straight road, however I notice a difference. The KDSS 4R had no flutter, example is concrete section lines, it just floats on the highway very nice. So basically having both in the garage, I would always pick mine with KDSS to drive over the wife’s non equipped even for a simple drive for that white mocha. Hope this helps.

    Welcome.
2021 MGM ORP w/KDSS. Love it! Only complaint is the horrendous MPG compared to my 4th gen. But then again i didnt buy it for the MPGs

You ever try out non ethanol? I run non ethanol and do fairly good, 25 mpg to work, 18.5-19 home, I work at 4900 ft, live at 6800ft.

I think it depends on where it’s at, if you find one that just shows your local dealers than try googling the VIN number. If it’s in someone’s inventory it should show up. If it doesn’t than it may very well be in port still or in transit to its destination.
This is how I found my ORP that fit what options I wanted 2.5 hours away.

looks like the one in New Bern is a standard off-road. Found another one coming on the 31st but it has the sliding cargo tray which Im not crazy about.

That was an option I wanted but had to give up due to availability. Also ended up going with KDSS when it really wasn’t on my wants list as the truck I called about literally sold the night before but they had the ORP I bought available and I jumped on it as the additional cost was moot after we negotiated a little bit and I’m not upset about having it. It feels better on the road than the non KDSS Runners I test drove. In the long run not having the slider may end up working out better for the dogs as they’re both pretty tall. (Dobie and Ridgback)

yeah we have mixed feelings about the sliding tray, but my wife said its not a deal breaker for her. My guy i have bought my other Toyota's from in PA has one coming in at the end of May with KDSS, that to wasn't on my list. i see you seem to like it so maybe the added benefit is worth it. To me it just is another thing to go wrong and when it does from what i read its costly and requires special tools to service. Its looking like though i'm gonna have to give or take on some of these options on one of these rigs.

Installed husky liners, doing all the protection mods first since I just got it.

What's the consensus on a radio screen protector? Worth getting one?PXL_20210329_223444100.jpg

Trucks brand new, so thought about that before it does get scratched. Figure we do it for our phones so might be of some value for the headunit.
