    Have not had a chance to RTFM yet, is 4WD limited to 50mph or is switching in and out of 4WD limited to 50MPH?

    The way I read the manual, and from other checks online, you should not exceed 50-55 mph in 4H. Not sure why you want to drive at those speeds in 4H anyway, but to each his own.

    Hmm....well, if I blow something up, I'll let ya know. Its a snow thing...I won't do it in traffic but on the highway with no traffic, I see no reason not to. No sharp turns on the highway up here. There's a reason I swapped the OEM tires out before I picked it up last Saturday...

    I routinely run mine in 4H at highway speeds on snowy roads but can’t say it’s been a long-term trial yet (only my second winter with the T4R).

    Same thing but it was long trial - 11 years on my 2010 SR5 and 1 year on 2022 TRD-Offroad. So far so good.

    The 50mph guidance is for shifting to 4H, afaik there is no limit once in. But like others I’ve never been in a situation that warranted 4 when I’d feel safe going that fast.

    Q: why locker before ATRAC on? I’ve used ATRAC a few times on my old taco but only once in 10 years wanted the locker… driving through feet of snow when I was sloppy on the throttle and slid out of the tracks into a bank and started spinning both ends.

    ATRAC gives you near locker performance to both axles without the turning penalty of a locked rear, I always thought that was preferable, but I’ll admit I live n an area where I’m never going rock crawling- mostly snow ice and mud.

    4.88, Air lockers, 35 Toyo MTs, C4 body armor, +2 LT, etc
    If you’re in 4-lo, I’d just turn on ATRAC and let it do its thing before engaging lockers. It’s actually pretty useful. In 4-high, if it’s loose traction drive it as fast as you can (safely).

    I’ve been through Death Valley at 50 plus mph, it’s smoother and much scarier o_O

    You can use multi terrain in 4hi? I've only ever used it once just to try it but I could have sworn you had to be in Lo??

    You can use the “Mud, Sand, and Dirt” setting in 4Hi or 4Lo. The other three settings will work in 4Lo only.
    With respect and gratitude to Cowboy59 for his effort and generosity, I’m not sure his notion of engaging these systems in a progression is helpful or correct. There’s a lot of overlap with these technologies, and I don’t think there’s a linear order in which they should be implemented.

    As far as the locking rear differential vs A-Trac: the locking differential is proactive. The A-Trac is reactive, and only works when wheel spin has been detected and momentum has been lost.

    These are pretty good videos. The first one deals with A-Trac and Multi-terrain-select. The second one talks about crawl control in great detail.

    Thank you for the feedback. Progression may have been a poor choice of words. I certainly did not mean to infer that you should work through that order. It was meant as a guide to determine what levels provided more potential usefulness based on a given situation.

    I don't imagine being able to go 50+mph in 4HI & being able to engage the rear locker would be a great idea.
