I just wanted to drop this here in case it helps someone else. Saturday a week ago, my husband started up my truck and there was a rather noisy ticking sound that was not normal. (I’ve had 1986, 2004, 2008, 2015, 2018, and now a 2022, so I am very familiar with the normal engine noise.) My husband immediately said “noisy lifter” and I had a moment of panic because I know enough about engines to know what and where they are and what it could mean. I called our regular service advisor and he went into woman calling with imaginary noise syndrome but made an appointment to keep it overnight and listen to it the next morning since it stops when it’s warmed up. The noise was located on the driver’s side and front of the engine.

Anyway, they found that it was the idler pulley and replaced it and i haven’t heard the tick again. It was ready in about two hours and I’m so happy it wasn’t a lifter issue.

I had a Dodge Challenger that gave me nothing but heartache for five and a half years and I’m starting to get back into the what’s next mode and I’ve never felt that in any of my Toyotas.

Anyway, I hope this helps should anyone else have it happen to them.

This is good information to know. I had a Tundra that had strange knocking, tapping, bad power steering pump sound. Turned out to be the alternator bearing. I used a mechanics stethoscope. Swapped it out and all was good.
