Hello everyone my name is Jeremy, I live in Arizona and I own an 89 4 runner that I’m having problemsvi”it’s making a ticking noise that resembles the sound made when you put a playing card between the spokes of a bike. (we used to do this when I was a kid) when you give it gas it ticks faster. Any advice from you ladies and gentlemen would be very much appreciated I have taken it to several different mechanics who all have refused to help me and they all have said the same thing, which is for me to get a new motor. What I would like to know is it something that can be fixed or is the motor just bad and needs replacing? And if it can be fixed does anybody out there In AZ (Phoenix Area preferably)know a good mechanic that would be willing to take a look at it. Thank you and I appreciate your time.

You wouldn't happen to have any audio or a video of this?
See if we could narrow down what it could be?

Welcome. Various problems with engine can cause ticking sound but could also be a cracked or leaking exhaust manifold or gasket. I've found the mechanics at Pep Boys shops in Phoenix helpful, fixed an alignment problem on a car in just a few minutes that other shops couldn't resolve but why not take your truck to a dealership, they are usually good at diagnosis.
