The master switch on my door for my driver side rear window will not work (the switch on the actual door does work). I tried the wait five seconds trick like you do after the battery dies and it didn’t work so I’m guessing the switch is shot. How do I replace it? Can I simply remove the black plastic plate around the switches or do I need to remove the door panel? I cannot find anything on the web about this. Thank you!

More than likely, it's not the actual switch, perse. You probably have a dead fuse or the wire is faulty (or became ungrounded). So you may need to remove the door panel. But first, check your fuses!

If the fuse is blown you have another problem.

Fuses just don't blow for the hell of it...

If it is a chafed wire then it would work intermittently. Does the switch feel normal. Usually if a switch goes bad it feels soft. I tend to agree with Borracho that it is probably a grounding issue in the harness or a broken wire and the only way to find it is follow the wires.

Thanks guys. I will check the fuse first and then take the door panel off. The switch feels the same as the others. Where will the harness be located?

You’ll need to remove the door panel to remove the switch assembly

Only problem I’m having is I can’t rule out the fuse because I can’t find the fuse panel. I know it’s supposed to be below the drivers side dash and I swear I don’t see a fuse panel anywhere. There is an airbag but no fuses.

    This video may help:

The interior fuse panel can be hard to see. You have to contort your body. When I did it, I had to insert myself into the drivers footwell, upside down, then turn my head slightly to the right and up. Then, and only then, could I see it.

It's a real mother fucker to find and get to. Toyota didn't make it easy.

Hi guys, sorry to drag you back into this but today I noticed that the window of the one that the master switch is not working, it actually opens and closes when the key isn’t even in the ignition and after the door has been opened and closed. This is not the case for any of the other windows. I was hoping this information would be helpful in diagnosing this problem. I checked the fuses and they are fine. Thanks!
