How To: remove 5th gen rear hitch

1. You’ll need access to 6x 17mm bolts. Remove rear bumper cover bolts right below weather seal. Unbolt and pop off at least one side of the bumper cover.
2. If you’ve ever had paint applied, score edges of assembly with a blade
3. Remove 6x 17mm bolts with a breaker bar. You may need lube, I did not. There’s captive nuts welded to the crossmember.
4. Remove hitch and torque bolts back in with antiseize.
5. Quick spray of semi-gloss black rattle can
6. Put ur bumper cover back on.
*I didn’t need to cuz my bumpers been cut for future tubing.
7. Store hitch assembly and wrench in some kind of case, on board, strapped/locked down.

Obviously hitch back on represents a known quantity, but having some sort of built in shackle mount would certainly look cleaner - no idea how one determines the rated load limit though.

Whatever solution, being able to use either soft or hard shackles would give you the most flexibility, so maybe having rounded edges on shackle mounts would be useful.

Edit: also, having multiple recovery points would be pretty cool in terms of being able to distribute the load evenly if you were going to do a straight pull.
