How much rust is too much?

    Hey everyone!

    Went to check out a 2005 4runner today and loved everything about it, but, there did seem to be some rust so wanted to get some opinion on if it's too much?

    It's currently in Austin, TX but it was originally a Chicago 4runner, guessing it would be from salt.

    Car details;
    2005 4 runner limited 4WD
    125k miles

    Feedback is appreciated!

    I’m sure the guys in the south will freak out seeing this much rust, but it looks pretty good on a 15 year old vehicle judged from up here in the great white north where I live. I might be tempted to get under it with wire brush and clean it off and paint it with a good rust coating of some kind. In Austin, it won’t get that much worse than what you see, if that’s any comfort. Just keep it clean, and if you eventually get some sheet metal perforation in the floor, repair it. That’s a whole separate thread.

    I'm sure you'll get some people who wouldn't buy it and others who would.

    It looks like the gas tank skid has the worst of it. If you look past that, the rest of it doesn't seem that bad.

    If it bothers you, go to a junkyard and replace that piece followed by cleaning the other rust spots.

    Doesn't look too bad. I would get underneath and wire brush as much of it as you can, then spray a rust converter, wait a day or two, then some rattle can satin black (and maybe some satin clear too); to clean it up and try to prevent it from getting worse.

    Thanks for all the feedback guys! My original option came through. 50k more miles but zero rust.
