Would be a good looking option used. Not for $860 a pop though

I almost picked up a used set until I realized they don't use the same lug nuts that our factory wheels use. Toyota has historically used mag type lug nuts but these rock warrior wheels use either the acorn or spherical style (the seller did not have the lug nuts on hand to confirm). To carry a spare tire around, you would either need a 5th rock warrior wheel to mount a spare onto (which is extremely difficult to find) or a separate set of lug nuts to use the factory spare (which seems impractical and the potential of misplacement skyrockets).
The set I was looking at were also extremely faded and would require refinishing. At the time I was not interested in the effort but they seem to hold their value.
To each their own, but if you are willing to change lug nut style, I think there are other better value (and better looking) wheels in the aftermarket. Personally, I prefer OEM quality and convenience, therefore I chose to stick with the TRD wheels (Sema wheels?).

 

I've seen one 4runner locally that has these and they look amazing. Way too much money though.

 

The price isn't that far off for a forged one-piece wheel. It will definitely be much stronger than the cast or flow-formed wheels.

 

Personally prefer the 16" TRD "beadlock" style wheel that came on some of the TRD Tacomas. When I realized 16" won't work on the 5th gen, I considered these as well.

Then I saw a pic of them on 5th gen.....did not like the look. May catch my eye better with some white letter out K02s but didn't look right as is. Was stoked to find the FN wheels 17" replica versions of the 16" TRD beadlock style wheels, will be mounting my set this Spring.

Would never pay anywhere close to $800 a wheel for these. A while back, I would see these for sale all the time for nowhere near that. Despite these being forged, the 16" beadlock versions sell for much more secondhand too.

 

I guess for those whose usage actually requires that strength. For that much my wheels better be forged in Asgard!

 

Or, it better be forged by the Armorer using Beskar

 

Heavy for a forged wheel.

Faux beadlock rings gouge easily if you actually take them rock crawling. Then the wheel goes out of balance. Replacement rings are unobtainium. They also trap mud and water.

The offset isn't good - too low for 33" skinnies, too high for 33" wide and 35"s.

 

My wife gave me a set for my birthday a few years ago. They looked amazing especially when compared to the stock LE wheels (which were awful for me).

Toyota made a 5 bolt for Tundra and the 6 bolt was for some trim level of Tacoma IIRC. Which of course, fit the 4Runner fine. They are hub centric as expected but did need its own lugs.

I had 5 of them and sold them in 2022. I now have Method 701s.

 

I could be wrong, but I think the difference was in size, not lugs. The 2nd Gen Tacos were only 16s I think.

 

I have a 2nd Gen Tacoma TRD Sport - and it has 17s.

 

Yes, I wasnt clear. 2nd Gen Sports had 17s stock, Limiteds had 18s, and the Offroads and Pros(which got the fake beadlock)had 16s.

 

The RW 6 bolt is a 17” and fit my LE perfectly. I had stock SR size tires 265/70-17. No issues.

 

The TRD SEMA wheels with 4mm offset are arguably the most off road-capable OEM wheels, because they let the vehicle accommodate 35x10.5-17" skinny tires with minimal effort, just push the tire forward with the alignment cams and do a cab mount chop. Lowest effort path to get into 35s.

Only if you're running skinnies, anything else you would want a wider wheen as the TRD wheels are only 7" wide. I have Replika TRD wheels as they were hundreds cheaper and 8" wide with the same appearance.

 

For a non-beadlock wheel, 23 lbs is heavy. For comparison, Volk Racing TE37XT in 17x8.5 is 17 lb.

To run a 33" skinny with little or no trimming, you want offset in the +30mm range, like 4th gen OEM wheels or Tacoma TRD Sport OEM wheels.
To run a 33" wide or 35" skinny with minimal work, you want offset in the 0mm range.

+10mm is somewhere in between, so it either requires more trimming, or fouls on the suspension (UCA, spindle gusset) depending on tire diameter.

This thread is speaking in context of OEM wheels. Sky's the limit with aftermarket of course, with a variety of cheaper wheels and stronger wheels, various forged beadlocks, etc., etc. There are also Teraflex wheels with a second high-flow valve for faster air up/air down.

On my Tacoma, I run FN Six Shooters in 17x8 0mm purchased through Cochrane Toyota, light and affordable. They get gouged to shit by rocks, but I don't shed too many tears. Already had to replace one after I caught air and the rim lip smashed sideways against a rock, but I did get a picture into the 2023 Tacoma World calendar

I'm 3400 km away lol, but Tacoma Town is the only reseller of FN wheels in the country, I think.

 

My old 2011 Toyota Rock Warrior had these and I love the look. The center caps didn't hold up very well, but they were inexpensive enough to replace.

I have the RW wheels on my Tundra. I like them a lot. Unfortunately the center caps are now unobtainable. If anyone knows where to get some, let me know. Otherwise I’ll be 3D printing some replacements soon.

I have the gloss gray TRD Pro/SEMA wheels on my 4Runner and I like them, they fit 285’s well with a 2” lift and don’t stick out too far and wreck the side of the vehicle with debris. No photos handy.

 

^You have blank center caps on now? Just get whatever TRD/TEQ/Gazoo/F-Sport decals and stick them on the caps
