    bottom of your E-brake?

    Since I drove it off the lot I've had to mash that shit to the floor to get it to hold. Roughly 12 clicks. I've heard it should be around 7 or so. Anyone know for sure?

    How many clicks does it take for you to engage the E-brake?

    Is there any easy way to tighten it? I've read about 1 way where you had to remove the dash. :annoyed:

    It's a 2018 bring it back and ask. Sorry don't know answer off hand. Even if they say it's fine and becomes an issue down the road you'll be on record with service dept for asking.

    Already mentioned it to the dealer when I had my 10,000 mile oil change.

    They said it was fine, but it's not. I think they just don't want to do the work.

    I can't get the truck to rest on the E-brake when parked on a hill.

    This should be covered under warranty, right?

    if both park brake shoes are worn then they will blame you because you drove it with the park brake on. if one side is worn then a defect it can happen if not installed properly ..

    another issue is when the extremely cold weather hits do NO use the park brakes the cables will lock up and the shoes will get worn ..then pedal to floor.

    Yeah, they checked brake pads and calipers. Everything was showing normal wear. I live in So Cal, so extreme weather is not a factor for me, but good advice for those who do.

    Oddly, it was like this from day 1.

    I was just wondering if anyone has tightened the E-Brake cable themselves. If it's just a matter of tightening a bolt somewhere along the frame rail, I would prefer to just adjust it myself. If in fact the dash has to be pulled apart to adjust the pedal, I guess I'll reluctantly take it in.

    I have not worked on my 2016 runner park brakes but I did remove a rotor to see how Toyota fabricated these park brake shoes ... IMO you need very small hands to do this work .. I also searched this repair replacing of the park shoes .. they did say very hard to do.

    I have done park brake shoes on dodge and GM trucks not all that hard but a PITA.. dodge was pretty tough job ..
    the reason also I removed the rotors runner was, I put anti seize on the axle hub so the rotor will come off easy .. so cal probably no problem but up here in the rust belt rotor removal can be a real problem even after 2 yrs of winter driving .

    the park brakes have a adjusting wheel on the backing plate . a little tricky .. up or down so I am not sure using the tool to turn the adjuster wheel on these toyota park brakes..

    what I read was you adjust the wheel until the axle starts to drag then adjust the wheel in the opposite direction 10 clicks ..

    repeat on the other side same then with both wheels off the ground see how the park pedal goes down .. should be half way down .. not good if too high..

    since you do have some park brake then the shoes are a bit worn so adjusting the shoes should not be a problem .. if this happens again then the shoes will need replacing . again both wheels off ground and exercise the park brake and check for how the wheels spin and then not spin..

    I doubt it is the pedal .or the cables ..new truck ..

    Maybe bring it up again or call and ask another dealer if you have one close by. If all else fails find one on the lot and try it out. Instead of being blown off by the service "advisor" behind a counter see if you can get a technician to try it with you. "Squeaky wheel gets the grease" sometimes with those people. When the wife brings her six year old Honda in for an oil change they literally want and suggest to replace rusty bolts and hardware underneath. When I go in with it I'm in and out in record time no mention of silly little things that 100% of every car experiences. That totally pisses her off.

    Yeah just take it in and tell them your concerns about hill holding, etc...If they say it's ok then it's on record that it's ok. Make sure it's on your receipt...I know I can still back up with my e brake on, the motor has enough torque, but you can definitely tell it's still on.

    My rig has a Emergency brake???? Huh,.. go figure. Ive never used mine lol. Ever..

    Well I hope your parking pawl doesn't break or become dislodged, low chance, but it has happened.. prob not as much these days. Then your 4runner will be a run away missile if on a hill. Will make a great 6 o'clock news story. Would suck if it killed someone though. YMMV:anonymous:.

    Yeah, that would really suck. I never felt comfortable resting my truck on the transmission alone when parking on a hill.

    On a side note, I wish the 4runner had the hand e-break that the new Tacoma has. That would be fun to use in wet or icy parking lots with VSC and Trac control off.

    I'm sitting in my rig for lunch at work, right now, parked in a spot, that goes under the plant. Pretty decent incline, and my park brake went 12 clicks. All seems hunky and or dory to me. Feels fine no worries at all. Feels exactly as it should or would to me.

    Edit- I'll bet anything the dealer will tell you it's fine. I bet it is.

    Thanks for the report. I read that it should be around 7 clicks until the e-brake locks the vehicle in place though. Here's where I saw that:

    2018 here..... seems fine at 12 , 13 clicks. But, see what the dealer says boss. Good luck
