So I am going with 4.88 and Eaton front diff lock. Problem is diff shop won't do the wiring and switch for the locker and suggests I go to some stereo shop. What parts do I need for that? And how do you know if the locker is engaged or disengaged?

Does it come with a switch? If not there’s AirOnBoard switches that fit in OEM locations. It would just be an indicator light on the switch itself.

I don't know yet. I am letting the shop order the parts.

But it’s just power to the switch then to the locker. Not sure if it needs a relay and probably go with a switch source so it goes off when you turn the engine off.

I’ve read about fitment issues with those that’s why I suggested AirOnBoard.

They won't do the wiring for the locker? I would find a new shop that will actually do the entire job. That's weird.

It is a 100% diff shop. They don't do anything else.

For gods sake, don’t go to a stereo store for the electrical installation.

It doesn't matter if all this shop does is diffs. If they won't wire the Eaton locker, find another shop. Find a stereo shop, what??!! You must be joking.

They will wire it, just not all the way to the inside the truck.

that seems like a weird hill to die on for the shop. If all they do is diffs, they should be able to do the wiring. Also, makes it easier for them to deny responsibility for their work if they can blame a stereo shop. Will they install air lockers? If not, maybe that means they don’t do many locker installs.

Wow, if they can't compete a job for Eton locker I can't imagine what they would do for a ARB locker..!! Yikes..!! Better find a good shop imo..

They do all lockers. They do the wiring upto say in the engine bay. At that point they say their job is over. It is upto the customer to get the wire from the engine bay to inside the truck.

I would honestly find a different shop. That wiring should be easy work. So either they honestly don’t know how to do it, or are just going to use the stereo shop as the scape goat when something doesn’t work.
That’s a huge sign telling you to use a different shop for the complete install.

I would rather trust a diff shop than a 4x4 shop for the gearing. These guys have been doing diffs for over 30 years

install your switch beforehand and have your wires meet their wires. How are they going to test it out if the wiring is not complete?

I think that's a good idea. I can do the gear oil change myself or at some other shop at 500 miles then

If a shop is going to install a locker, but recommends that you go to a stereo shop for the wiring I would stay far away from that shop lol. Find a legit shop that does 4WD's.
