Anyone have leads on an aftermarket hood liner? Stealership wants $300.
I only have 5k miles on the dang thing.

    All of them.
Check around for other evidence of rodents. Generally to remove that much of a section they weren’t in and out

That is definitely 100% caused by rodents.

Rodents for sure. The tricky part is finding where they took all of that material and built their nest! It’s likely in the engine bay someplace....

If that is indeed rodents, I would verify they haven't started consuming your soy based wire loom that others seem to have issues with!

Yes, a friend of mine spent about $2K replacing his wiring in a Honda van due to chipmunks doing the same to him.

Just take it out. My 2013 didn't even com with one. At first I thought it was missing, but then I found out the hoods with the fake scoop didn't come with one.

If you DO jus remove it, and notice more engine noise, please reply back here. I hate how much engine noise I can hear in mine, if the hood matt helps, I'd spring for one.

Have you checked the air filter box under the air filter or the cabin air filter? Found bird seed in the air box and chewing damage to the cabin filter in my '13.

They got into the heater box and, of all places, the headliner of my '07 Tundra. The dealer saved me a box of the shit they found and told me to close the "recirc" vent when I parked. I have done that ever since. Unfortunately, the '13 'Runner was my wife's and I didn't drive it much until she passed.

Checked in & under air box, under engine cowling & behind the hood liner. I have not cbecked the cabin air filter yet.
I have traps around outside & a glue trap sitting on the air box while its parked.
Looked around the engine bay & couldn't find anything, but they have been back. There is now a hole all the way through the hood liner. I will need to look at firewall anyplaces they can get it.

Buddy told me there is something about the 4runners that Attract rodents. Something about the wire coating. Anyone ever heard that?

So I'd be looking at the main wiring harness then? Looked fine, but maybe I better take a closer look.

They aren’t necessarily eating your wiring insulation, but could be. They appear to have found a nice material in the hood lining to build a nest somewhere, need to find it. I had mice go into my folding lawn chair bags only to systematically chew away and store the paper labels someplace else, under my stacked summer tires in the same shed! Mouse traps should work, multiple around the truck and in the engine bay.

Ground squirrels wow! So sorry. Is your 4R usually parked outside? I have a lot of squirrels in my yard due to neighbors feeding them shelled peanuts and they bury them in my grass. It’s so irritating but nothing legally I can do.

In my garage with 4r I have two traps and mouse poison out. I thought moth balls could injure our lungs in humans if I remember correctly. I will keep closer eye on mine now.

So sorry you had to go through that. That is awful

Yep. Parked outside. The dealership had to pull engine out to fix. They had it for 45 days while they did the work & sorted out payment with our insurance.
I kill every ground squirrel I see now.
