Anyone has an idea how did this happen? The truck recently got an oil change but I was watching the whole process. It’s a $500 piece so probably won’t replace it.

Careless tech left a tool there? Check the underside of the hood for an indentation or a scratch.

Based on the first pic, it looks like it may leak. I'd buy the cowl and replace it the next time you need to replace your windshield

My windshield is in perfect condition. I’ll pull a warranty claim on this. Won’t spend $500 on parts only.

If you are going with a claim have them at least check the wiring harness for rodent intrusion that way you can get it in on one claim at the same time.

Yes that’s what it looks like but I was watching the whole oil change and the tech was doing the right thing.

I’m still going with rodent chewing on your cowl, not a tech.

When was the last time you actually looked at that location before your T4R was serviced.

Warranty will more than likely NOT cover that.
Now, if you have chewed wiring and needs replacement, then include that issue as well, but those will come under your auto insurance coverage and NOT Warranty.

Almost certainly rodent damage although I'm surprised there is no debris left over.

So you're gonna spend $500 on a deductible just to keep from having to buy a $500 part?
You're gonna get your feelings hurt when they tell you thats a rodent, mouse or chipmunk that ate it up. Those are teeth marks. Toyota is not giving you a new one of those.
There is absolutely no reason to be alarmed by this and i would venture to say leave it alone it wont hurt anything but your feelings. Stop looking at it, it will go away.

First impression on those pics was that it got nibbled on by a rodent. Lack of droppings etc may just mean that it happened a long time ago, or that the nibbling mouse never took up residence.

How are you going to claim warranty on that?

Just curious as to how that conversation is going to go!

    Electrical failure?
    Mechanical failure?
    Proton injector failure?
    Sunvisor reflection misalignment?
    Wrong oil?
    Alignment?
    Glove box filter?
    Muffler bearings?
    Low tire pressure?

    Must I go on?

Someone had an idea. Piece of ice got stuck there and the wipers pushed it. Ice can be sharp like a blade.

So, if that’s the case, what warranty do you want to cover that?

Ice Warranty or Driver Induced Warranty ?

I’m just trying to figure out how this is warranty related.
Please help us out here or are you just trolling with this thread?

Probably the ice scratched it, what got stuck under there and when I started the wipers it cut the plastic.

    Update:
Since the plastic broke due to the very cold temperatures and ice, the dealer will replace it under warranty.

Toyota is going to replace it because it got cold???

Dealer is going to cover that…. Toyota isn’t.

I know. It’s hard to understand that things work differently in NYC than in the south. I’m glad that you have a strong but uninformed opinion. When was the last time you tipped your service advisor or the tech? Let me guess, never.

How much do you tip them to get this to work? Just curios about the going rate in NY for something like this to work. Around here, they charge you an hour’s time to tell you they couldn’t replicate a problem and reject a warranty claim.

I always take care of my service advisor. Depending on the job I open with a $20 to have a coffee then go from there if they really help me out. My guy just send it in for a multipoint inspection then he tells me the “cash” price which he gives directly to the tech. It’s on my other car because the runner is under warranty. In NYC people want to make money so they help each other out. Same when you buy parts. There’s an official price and a cash price. E.g cabin air filter is $39 officially. Cash $20.

Unless your 'ice' issue looked like this:
    upload_2025-2-21_9-8-30.png

I can't see how that was caused by ice. Good thing you and your $20 convinced the service guy it was, and to fix it under warranty.
