Im New here and sure could use some help. Im working on a early 2002 4runner that has been in limp mode since 2017, when it was parked. Its my brother inlaws truck. It has the 4 pin tps/tpps. From what i can gather, the tpps is not avalible to purchass. He said thats what it needs. He also said that we may need to buy a used 2001 harness and ecu, and probably a 2001 Throttle Body to change it to the previous year style. Does anyone have any experiance with this problem? I have just started looking into this, the rats have chewed up the wiring for some injectors and the TPPS so im going to start pulling it apart to look it over soon. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thank You

2001-2002 are the same setup. Changing to an earlier harness\ECU\TB is maybe possible but there is a lot that would need to change and when you're done, you would have been smart to drop the $700 for a complete TB assembly with all sensors from TOYOTA.

Or you can buy just the TPS: https://www.partsgeek.com/xg7lv9z-toyota-4runner-throttle-position-sensor.html

AND you can do the PPS fix (post #8):
    https://www.4runners.com/threads/2001-4r-2wd-error-code-p-1120-and-p-1121.29984/

Remember there is a Throttle Position Sensor AND a Pedal Position Sensor. In the TB They both go bad.

Also, PULL CODES. You need to know what the ECU is complaining about in regards to your limp mode.

negusm, Thank You for your response. I do have a couple more questions. I saw that Geek Parts has a new TB that is priced at $468.00, do you have any thoughts on that part as it is 30% cheaper than the Toyota part? Next, just so you know, Im new to toyota's. I'v been involved with GM, Ford and Mopar, VW stuff , all my life but never with Toyota, so i'm new. My brother in law, Billy, who own's it told me a bit about it. From what i understand, Billy purchased it from the original owner that bought it new who was a Toyota salesman for his personal vehicle. He ordered all the good stuff that was 4wheel drive related, front and rear lockers, transfercase locker which iv never heard of, etc. No power windows or seats etc. Its got about 230,000 miles on it. We are in Tucson AZ. so we do alot of 4wheeling as there's not a whole lot more to do. He Swears by it, its the best 4 wheeler he's ever owned, so it may be worth saving. I'm going to pull the TB off, repair the wiring that was messed up by the rats. Which TB do i buy?? Again, Thank You for your Time/Help.

Post a link to the TB. If anyone other than Toyota or their suppliers has a hand in it, I would go with Toyota.

You just know it works from Toyota.

I thought power windows were in all the trim models...in 2001-2002. Guess not.

Make sure you give the Toyota dealer your VIN!

They will double check the part for you. If you open the wrong part then you are stuck with it.

Good advice! As far as codes go there were never any codes showing, we have a snapon code reader, nothing. Only thing that showed long ago was the evap system and that was all rebuilt years before the current problem, the current trouble is a new problem i think. I decided to try the "fix" for the accelator pedal position sensor as i have not found one for sale, unless i buy the new complete new Throttle Body. will let you know if it works. Waiting for a couple more parts to come in. The rats took the APPS wiring connector and without the connector that has the part number on it toyota cant help me. I found a Lexus one on ebay that i ordered, will be in next week, looks like it may work, has 4 wires. I couldent find any help online for the connector number so fingers crossed the used connector will work.
