Help! Is this lift hight normal? disappointed in dobinsons full travel lift.

Purchased a brand new runner as a dream truck. 3000 miles installed a Dobinson IMS long travel kit front and rear. really paid up and built the right rig. The front end isn't even and one side sits at 3.5 inches while the other at 3 in the front. The rear has 4.5 on one side and 4 on the other (the passenger side is high front and rear no kdss). had install shop (which is supposedly very reputable shop in my area w/references) look it over twice and they even called dobinsons lead tech and said the suspension has to settle. looked into it myself--sent pictures to dobinsons and they said everything looks fine just that its a cold spring and it will take time to settle. THE PROBLEM; im getting a serious rear driveline vibration due to the high angle of the lift. its rattling at shift points and I think its even messing up my shift timing. Both the shop and dobinsons are saying that its normal and needs to settle but its been over a month and over 500 miles. it tracks straight as an arrow down the highway and no steering vibration (I had them put in an ecgs bushing as preventitive). the front and rear was supposed to be no more then 3 inches. I'm thinking of demanding a refund from dobinsons or getting a second opinion at another shop. Any advice???? here are some pictures:

 

I think you got a suspension kit that is overkill for what you wanted, not knowing that.

The rear is supposed to be MAX 3.0 inches. it's not even close.

Do you know what springs you got? Looks like the might be for more weight than you have on the vehicle

Regarding the mismatched heights. I could be wrong, but to me it sounds like the shop didn't take the time to adjust the front shocks. When I installed mine, an adjustment in one front corner would change the rear lift on both sides. Because the weight of the 4runner is on the driver side (battery, fuel tank, driver) the front shock adjustments will be different.
For the vibration, are both the rear tires sticking out the same distance? Just making sure the track bar was lengthened correctly

 

Yeah, that's super high. I do know people whose suspension sat high at first and settled. I can't really say how long it took, but probably more than 500 miles

You referred to it as a long travel kit. Did that include upper and lower control arms for the front? Or, did you already have a long travel setup? Or, is it possible you installed parts that are intended to be used with a long travel suspension, without having long travel suspension?

Or, is it maybe an extended travel kit?

Just trying to clarify.

Also I wouldn't hold on to Dobinsons doing anything. They really like to hit customers with the, "looks good" and "working as designed".

For anyone else getting a lift installed, regardless of brand, DO NOT leave the shop if you are not satisfied.

 

No. KDSS rear sway bar is behind the diff.

 

Well fronts should be adjustable so you can lower. The rear will settle. Put some weight back there and drive it a month or so. Bags of sand or something. Itll settle. You have no weight so the lift is sitting tall. Honestly, it all looks good to me. Just need some bigger tires ha

 

You’ve got people responding to two identical threads running at the same time, with the same photos and questions. You should try to delete one of the threads or ask a mod for help.

 

If your driveline is complaining, I’d try to limit the miles you put on it while you sort it out.

Before install, did you happen to compare the part numbers you got to what you ordered?

Does “full travel” mean stock travel, or long travel.

In any case, something’s not right. Either they sent the wrong coils, or you ordered the wrong coils. There’s the possibility the front coilover assembly could be brought down by relieving some of the preload, youndon’t have that option in the back.

By the way, in my experience, they’re not going to settle that much. It took over 10k miles for Dobinson coils to settle maybe 1/4 inch or so. In that regard, Dobinson springs are good, because they don’t seem to sag much over time compared some other options out there.

If you’re going to try again with different dobinson coils, I’d recommend aiming for 2 inch of lift in the front, and 1.5 in the back, since they tend to run a little high (not as high as what you have though).

 

I got the no load springs (0-500 lbs). so it's designed to have no extra weight on the vehicle.

302 fronts are 2.5” lift for the front assuming no adjustment on the shocks. 675V are 3” rear… with third row. Having just done a 3 row to 2 row conversion and a 2 row to 3 row conversion, those 3rd row seats are heavy. That would probably be 3.5”-4” without the 3rd row. The IMS I put on one of our vehicles did take a couple thousand miles to settle down about half an inch front and back

“Only those people looking to do a full long travel rear can order the ***575 shocks. They will cause issues if you don’t have the correct replacement brake lines, bump stops, and sway bar links in place.
KDSS vehicles CANNOT use long travel rear shocks

Looks like you got exactly what was intended with the set up installed. If you didn’t spec it out, I’d go back to the shop that recommended it and take up the issues with them

 

long travel, and thanks for the information. in retrospect I totally agree I should not have gone that high, going to get a shop second opinion and unless they see something glaring them right in the face that somethings wrong, its coming off asap. IMO the front should be equal thats why im thinking maybe they messed something up.
