    Hello everyone,

I am trying to track down the owner of the 4runner below. I have a 2022 Lunar Rock 4Runner and this is the exact look I am going for with my build. I am trying to track down the owner or the owner's socials to reach out and understand what goes into his/her build. If anyone has any insight on the size of this person's lift, the type of wheels, the amount of negative offset, and tire size would also be very helpful. I just want to know what goes into this build so I can try to piece together my own look for my build. Thanks so much and any info would be greatly appreciated!!

Those look bigger than 35s to me. Not many IFS on 37s. Deep rabbit hole $ to do this right. Looks awesome. I would assume long travel and he is running Kings. I would plan on upgrading steering rack and regear along with lots of cutting and pounding with BFH.

sifting thru the comments on Ig posts, it appears those are 37s on a 3" MidTravel setup with 1" body lift.

He has had multiple sets of tires and wheels, but the ones in the picture are 37s.

I can bet money the ride is super loud and not comfortable. Easy on the eyes, looks great for a few minutes, but I can't imagine taking a long HWY trip on this thing. Better get ear protection. And a new transmission while you are at it because those 37s are going to.... you know what....
sorry, not trying to be critical here but these things cost a lot long term. Like a hot chick in HS, remember those days? Never cheap...

hot chicks in high school were cheap compared to hot chicks in your twenties

hot chicks in your twenties are super cheap compared to hot chicks in your thirties

by the time you get to your forties if you still gotta hot chick you also likely got kids and that means you better make a small fortune or your bank account stays in the negative

Damn 37's on the stock steering rack? Look at those tiny tie rods...
35's is a good stopping point. If I was going bigger than that I'd have to justify RCLT kit, MarRack, regear and possibly a supercharger as well.

34 or maybe 35's is where I'll stay for a while. If I needed 37s and had the money to do this to my 4Runner I'd probably just get a 392. Add a winch and call it a day.

It has power, comes twin locked with 4.88's and a better crawl ratio than any modern Toyota.

In fact, I'll just leave this here.

    Here's your man though.
I'd advise not doing this to your rig unless you have very deep pockets and will have some money leftover to actually use and maintain it.

By the time you’re looking at that much, I’d rather just get an Ineos Grenadier.

Mid travel in this case means heavily spaced bumpstops resulting in no suspension travel.

There's actually a guy in my local area with a similar setup. It's ironic that once he put on 37s (up from 35s), he no longer did the more difficult trails.

Can you fit 37s on a Grenadier without chopping it to pieces?

This is a trend I've seen as well. Shame really. I see a lot of built out 4R's in my area, very few of them get used properly. It's gotten to the point that I get excited when I see one with some battle scars.

What's the point of all these off road mods if you're too terrified to use it off road? Just doesn't make sense to me.

    upload_2025-1-17_15-10-4.png

Pulled from this dudes IG page. That's a lot of wheel lift and not much suspension travel...

I don't have instagram so I can't look at many images before it forces me to make an account. Judging by what I can see I'd say this thing is a pavement princess with some occasional off road posing for "the gram."

I could be a bit jaded since I've seen a lot of these builds though.

From what I’ve seen, it’s extremely capable, enough to not need 37s, but according to the Google you can fit them.

    Capable of what? Dirt roads?

Have you seen one flex out? It's pathetic.

Don't get me wrong I'm sure its a great rig for overlanding but I would hardly call that an off road vehicle.

Big tires create headaches. You may want to consider upgrading the steering knuckles/spindles to gusseted ones. You'd be surprised to find out how easy it is to bend knuckles while bouldering...especially when sliding (sideways) off a rock.

And while you're at it, upgrade the tie rods!

Even with 34s I wanted gusseted spindles and cam tab gussets.

I’ve seen a few rigs now bend spindles, fold cam tabs, break tie rods, CV’s, etc.

There’s no free lunch in physics and even with 34s/35s you’re putting a lot additional force on every component.

It’s a proper Defender but with extra goodies for around what the Lexus GX costs.

Nice. I think for touring (Australian version of overlanding) it’s a great vehicle.

I was thinking in context of rock crawling and finding obstacles to push the limit. The context of this thread is a 4Runner on 37s so I was assuming we’re talking about some serious trails.

The Aussies do serious trails without 37s. Lot more restrictions about modding vehicles down there it seems.

The best off-roading content out there seems to come from down under for some reason. The 4wd 24-7 guys remind me of the best aspects of Top Gear in many ways.

Yeah man I like that channel. I remember when they visited the states and were hitting some of the trails here.

They were all pretty surprised of the rigs out here. The laxed state regulations allow for some pretty sweet rigs that are still street legal.

The amount of flex in the rear, would indicate that he likely has stock length shocks and that amount of droop travel in the rear means the limiting factor of the "flex" is the shock topping out.
Stock shocks top out somewhere around 3ish inches over ride height. So hes probably got 2" springs in the rear, and about 1" of droop travel in the shocks before topping the shock out. Hence why the axle looks like its not flexing, the rear shocks are most likely stock length and topped out and wont allow any flex.
That is a build one would typically have as a pavement princess on road and take pix of and get likes and thumbs up on social media. That build is not meant to actually work, sure it can go offroad and take pix but it wont "work" offroad like its supposed to. The amount of flex it has, makes the front and rear appear rigid like an old go-cart

Look 37s to me. The thing has lost every bit of down travel, don't do it. Get a cheap Jeep if you like 37s

Wait, so he bought a TRD pro, then proceeded to rip out all the major components that differs from a regular OR?

I guess that skidplate looks cool.

For the amount of money required to mount 37s on the 4Runner, you can get a TJ already on 37s. Trust me!

@bcarney96 - aka OP - have we giving you enough reasons and grief for not doing this to your 4R? Spare the life of that tranny...for the love of God. If you want 37s and that monster look, get a different vehicle.

It needs a swaybar disconnect. Disconnect it and it will flex more than our 4R can ever dream of.
