Man, who would’ve guessed that changing headlight bulbs would end up being the most unnecessarily difficult and frustrating thing I’ve done on my 2nd Gen before! lol.

I have changed mine before and never had to take the front end apart.

Get yourself Hella head lamp replacements, they use H4 bulbs that are replaceable and can be accessed from the back of the lamp. This way the grill only comes off the one time. One only need remove the battery on the passenger side to swap out and the OEM air cleaner ducting on the drivers side to do the same for bulb replacement. I just gave my 12V 100/55W Hella bulbs to my son and replaced my illumination with some 12V 140/100W bulbs and they are a huge improvement over the OEM 12V 60/55W bulbs. But if you manage this upgrade you had better spring for a relay kit from Low Range Off Road or some other such supplier so you don't toast the OEM wiring and/or relay. You never get anything for free and the added current draw with high amperage bulbs will make short work of the OEM provisions if you want the headlamps to work reliably.20210424_113101.jpg

Are those four on the front Hella's? and if so what model? I'm looking to put two additional lights on mine, wondering about breakage? Years ago my TJ had 7" lights that came with a grill to protect somewhat.

Yes they are quite ancient Hella 140's but originally come with 50W bulbs. I modified them to allow 100W bulbs and I switch them all on and off with a 100% dury cycle Trombeta senoid which is triggered by a relay I have triggered by a dash switch and my high beams. With all this turned on I find I cannot out drive my braking distance at night when flying about in the SC desert. It is a very good non LED solution. But this takes some power to drive everything reliably so I have 170 amp alternator as well
