So obviously take this with a grain of salt but I think it had enough credibility to post it, i went to Arizona the other day with my buddy to the suburbs of phoenix to buy a used go fast camper for his tundra, got to chatting with the seller real nice guy, said he sold all his Toyotas but was a huge Toyota guy his whole life with over 15 trucks, anyway we start talking shop and he asked if I’ve ever been to the Land Cruiser heritage museum in slc which I have.

he told me he’s close friends with Greg miller (owner of the Land Cruiser heritage museum) and some other gentleman who’s name didn’t ring a bell but he works for Toyota North America. Anyway he said Greg has a very significant role with the 6th gen design and told him it will indeed have a removable roof pannels like bronco and Jeep

I found him credible he has no skin in the game, doesn’t even own anymore Toyotas but I found him to be truthful so I do believe he knows Greg and Greg told him that the rest well I guess time will tell but for those who care thought I would share

I want to hear more about why you were there like where was the tundra purchased? What were the factors that led to buy that specific trailer? Ambient temperature? Friends sign? For that matter, your sign? Spouses?

Removable roof panels sounds terrible. Just awful. Bad sound deadening. Spots to leak.

Oh I agree I think the 6th gen will be awful, cafe killed Toyota reliability look at the 3rd gen tundra and that’s your forecast of 4th gen Tacomas and 6th gen 4Runner. The roof pannels would be the least of my worries as the motor they’re putting in is complete garbage as far as reliability goes

he purchased the tundra used a few years ago it’s a 2011 rock warrior edition, barometric pressure was about 1013 millibars air temp 83 and 10pm local time. Factors leading to the purchase is my buddy is a lot like a female he hem haws can’t make up his mind and is hypocritical he said he was going to buy a brand new 4wheelcamper slide in for 40k but is pussy whipped so he had to settle for a used go fast which he got for 6k. He is married don’t know his sign or birthday guess we’re not that close.

Nope the guy telling me wasn’t a friend he was the guy selling the camper. Only info he said was the Greg guy made it sound like a huge deal about the roof nothing else no other info

It would certainly be interesting if they did give the 6th gen a removable roof.

I don't blame anyone for being skeptical, but I could see it happening. Maybe they just want to put out some cool shit before government restrictions ruin cars altogether. :notsure:

I haven't been to the ADAMM car show in years, but I might actually go this winter to see some of the new Toyotas. Or, maybe I'll just go pretend I'm interested and test drive them like I did when back I was an asshole. Well.. more of an asshole.

I think the sound deadening was better in my 4th gen than my 5th gen. I wouldn't be terribly worried about leaks. If Jeep can make a half decent removable roof, I'm sure Toyota can do better.

Not necessarily. The Tundra is using a completely different engine. Hopefully Toyota learned not to put the wastegate in such a shitty spot in the future, also.

This is why I bought a 2023 4Runner. I don't trust this new tech motor for long term reliability.

I’m with you on buying the 23. I wanted the last year of the 5th Gen. It was going to be a 23 or 24 for me. I want no parts of the new design until maybe 3 years in. But even then I will be retired and I won’t want to buy a new vehicle if my 23 is taking care of me.

I don't think anyone thought the Bronco wouldn't leak. :D

Funny, I've had several Toyotas with moonroofs, and never had a problem. :notsure:

What if with 4cyl turbo I was thinking you could turn it sideways moving everything forward with a driveshaft running the diff. You could almost have a flat lower floor before of small shaft tunnel. You could add and remove stuff like the panels and its bigger while being smaller so to say. GX,4R and LC will use the same platform. Boxes have more room any. Nothing comes in a circle. You would have all your traction over the weigh all the time. Power can be split auto or manual. Your can access your speedometer through the display and imput your tire size so your computer can adjust everything. Now that would be something. I'm going to invent an app for that. Now it's the size of your air pump. It might be a 4runner car

You have to clean the drain hoses underneath. Mud can stop them up. Put your recirculation bottom

Maybe your not thinking far enough ahead. They have to sell you less and make you think its more for more. They want 100 miles a gallon Joe Biden Editions.

Greatly depends on where you live, how much you drive your 4Runner, and whether or not you have a garage to park it in. For those in hot sunny climates (CO to the Pacific) with no garage, the rubber seals around the moonroof take a beating.

I've never garaged anything. But, I'm in Wisconsin, where it's cold and overcast from October until April.

One-at-this-price stripper. Bought new 34 yrs ago, a $13K leftover. Added Detroit TruTrac, 1”rear spring spacer and “pinstripes”… Factory AC kit and roof rack bought at dealer cost at time of purchase, still blows ice cold 32yrs later. 2022 AG ORP all stock.
Back at the end 2021 the rumor was the 2022 would be the last of the 5th gen so we swooped…..my wife got her Army Green, I got my 5th gen ORP…..
Nothing personal against turbos but they add another layer of complexity and are very hard on oil, lubricating the very hot turbo bearings break down oil pretty quick. I would definitely go back to 3K oil changes rather than the current 5K.
My diesel is a turbo but with Stone Age complexity and is super easy to service.
